Can someone please give advice about line manager's borrowing money off social workers.

Am I right in saying that this breaches the GSCC Code of Conduct?

I wouldn't have thought so, unless it's more sinister than borrowing a tenner and paying it back asap. If a manager was abusing their position to coerce an employee into lending them money when they would not otherwise have done so, or if they have borrowed money from someone (who lent it freely or otherwise) and then deliberately delayed or refused to pay it back, that could be viewed as a breach of the code of conduct. But "oh, I need to get some lunch and I have no money, could anyone lend me a fiver?" followed by the next day "here's the fiver I owe you, thank you" isn't an issue.

You've just reminded me .... I lent a Director of Children's Services £5 for parking last month and he hasn't paid it back. Ha ha ha!! I shall request interest immediately!

I agree .. not against code of conduct at all. And nor should it be. Its those personable supportive favours that happen between all colleagues regardless of rank of status that makes our jobs a little more bearable.

We need more information as to the context Thomas.

It wasn't the Big Fat Controller was it????

Hi Rainbowarch,

Fascinated at your response to post.  Do tell - did you get your loan back ?  If not the Director maybe could help you with your question on another forum , if you need to shame him/her into paying you back that is !

Cheers.

Yes... of course I got it back. He simply forgot... and seemed a little sheepish when I knocked on the door and made a sarcastic remark about it being one thing making cuts, but pilphering employees money to fill the shortfall was probably going one step too far.

Oh how we laughed....

Am so glad you both laughed (and I hope you laughed and laughed), and what a brave person (you are) to make those remarks about cuts and pilphering (sic), when you knocked on the door.

Was this a LA Director ? Sheepish ? No it couldn't possibly be a LA one - they have more front than Blackpool !!

It was a LA Director.. (I am fortunate to have opportunity to work in both LA's and private sector). I often think LA Directors lead a relatively lonely life at work and appreciate a bit of banter from time to time.

I reckon it must be quite nice to have someone knock at your door with a cheeky smile and a joke from time to time than just hear of more problems..

They are just human after all!

Well done. I shall retire at this point. And thank you for sharing.

TtT has waited a long time for a reply

Hmm could be far more serious than it appears or not perhaps

If Thomas was that interested he would have supplied more information - so it must have been the Fat Controller - certainly not the Reverend Awdry!

5.2    Must not exploit service users carers or colleagues in any way.

Did the manager pay interest?         If not, clearly in breach.

Next case please.
