I am about to embark on the BA in Social work but was wondering how the degree is classified. I think I am right in saying that the marks from the first year don't count and that its the second and third year which will determine the overall classification, is this right? Do all universities follow the same marking system? Can it be broken down into individual grades for essays & assignments that the student will know that they are on track to receive a classification of a 2:1, 2:2 etc?
Thanks,
Nancy
I did the BSC Social Work but as far as I am aware there is little difference between this and the BA. Our first year did not count towards our degree classification. Year 2 was worth about 1/3 and Year 3 about 2/3 of the overall mark. For each piece of work a percentage mark was given and you could relate it to a degree classification using the following:
Under 30% =Fail
Under 40% = Referral
40-49% = Third
50-59% = 2:2
60-69% = 2:1
70% or above =First
There when comparing your grades you should be able to work out what you are on track for at that time.
Hope this isnt confusing
