Re Carespace comments 26/6; I got the impression that Stuart feels the victim of an assault by a mental health client is not entitled to sympathy,support or the right to feel safe in the community. I wonder how he would feel if he or one of his family were knocked down in such a manner, & there was no response? If it was me, I would hope steps were taken to ensure it wouldn't happen again. Apart from the shock & stress, & on-going worry about future chances of it recurring, the victim could have been badly injured or killed from colliding with hard surfaces. Consider the case recently, where a man was killed by an attack causing head-injury in a supermarket.

I'm not entirely sure how I gave that impression, jac. My view is quite contrary to what you apparently think they are. I think that society has a right to protect itself and that the label of mental disorder does not and should not negate the consequences of crime. I thought I'd made that clear.

I'd be grateful if you'd post the particular quote you're referring to so that I can clear up any misunderstanding.

Incidentally I have been the victim of assault by mentally disordered clients - on one occasion I was only saved from blindness by emergency laser surgery to prevent both retinae detaching. And you can stop wondering - I felt bleedin' terrible!
