Eileen Munro takes up role as transitional chair of TCSW from next month. Contract is for one year.
Does this mean that there will not be a operational chair elected by members for another year?
Or does it mean she will get paid but do nothing after the April elections?
Or does it mean that those elected in April will not take up post for up to a year?
Or will she be "the real chair" and the elected one just a spare?
And I wonder what the salary is, or is her University salary going to cover her doing this?
And why do they need a transitional chair anyway?
Were the interin co-chairs only good at interim and not transitions?
If they were such appropriate appointments could they not just hang on til after the elections?
If they were not....then are they responsible the BASW debacle? (will AB be more "hands off?)
Or does it need a weighter expert to ensure the govt specs for the College are not diluted in the transitional phase by member influence?
( NB nothing against Eileen munro, but rather wondered about the politics and hegemony of it)
Dear Silver Sage
Just to clarify, Professor Eileen Munro has taken on the voluntary role of Transitional Chair of the Children's Faculty of TCSW, to help us to build the professional leadership structures of The College.
Best wishes
Ania
Thanks,
That is a little different from what I thought.
Where can I find out about the Childrens Faculty and how it fits in and relates to the college and other agencies?
Do you have a schematic organisational diagram anywhere that will make it easier to understand quickly?
Was this Post externally advertised and open to general competition?
PLEASE can we have the full Organisation Chart made available or does The College just create Posts as it sees fit / the Government wishes?
Answer please 'Rainbird.'
The quick way to rate people is to look at who rates them, so I don't rate her.
And even more so those whom the Government honours!!!
The New Year honours list was published on Saturday 31 December 2011. In total, 86 people received awards from across the Department’s spectrum of responsibility.
Is there anyone yet who has been manouvered to position of control and power in the college who hasn't won the government's trust approval and serves/served them in some other employed voluntary or honorary capacity?
I may be thinking of this the wrong way, but if I want a made-to-measure bespoke suit, I have to go in and be measured and express my choice and needs in terms of colour, style material etc, and go back for fittings and adjustments.
I do not get a custom made bespoke suit, f the tailor already has it completed and finished before he even lets me in the door.
So how do we get a membership organisation that is owned and run for and by its members, if they are only allowed to have input once the design, direction and specifications have already been dictated by other vested interests?
By the time members get to vote on anything there won't even be the colour of the bathroom tiles left to choose!
Still if our major concern is what it costs us...we can't have everything!
Hegemonic Stability Theory
When a hegemon exercises leadership, either through diplomacy, coercion, or persuasion, it is actually deploying its "preponderance of power." This is called hegemony, which refers to a state's ability to "single-handedly dominate the rules and arrangements ...[of] internal political and economic relations."[2]
Come on 'Rainbird' - or does it need a further Freedom of Information request to elicit the details?
Also, is Eileen Munro a registered Social Worker?
(sorry to resort to this but Ifeel I must!)
Oh it's all gone quiet over there
Oh its all gone quiet over there
Oh its all gone quiet
All gone quiet
All gone quiet over there
( to the tune of "she'll be coming round the mountain..")
To the same tune!!!
We'll be dreaming up the answers as you type,
Dreaming up the answers,
We'll be dreaming up the answers as you type.
Only on this occasion, perhaps not a case of " Any dream will do"?
Maybe more like;
So different now from what it seemed Now life has killed the dream I dreamed
(les miserables)
Or even:
She'll be coming straight from Hackney when she comes,
Coming straight from Hackney,
Dear old RECLAIM Hackney, (The Reclaim SocialWork Model for the unenlightened!!!)
She'll be rushing in from Hackney when she comes.
Perhaps:
We're afraid your questions got us stumped!
'fraid about your questions,
Very clever questions,
Afraid your questions got us stumped!
haha made me lol that has rupert
What about the simpler questions?
Where can I find out about the Faculty of Childcare that she is Chair of?
Is there an organisational diagram of the structure and postholders in the College of Social Work ( as Eamon Holms would say; "yes or no?")
Its been over two weeks.....have these questions gone out to consultation? ( commissioned and undertaken by a govt approved body of course!)
Freedom of Information request duly sent but may depend on whether legally all legal ties with SCIE have been severed and the College is now an Independent entitiy.
I have scanned all the minutes of the interim and transitional boards posted on TCSW website and there is no mention of a faculty of childcare.
I did notice that they had to apply for ministerial approval to set their membership fees so low however!
There's independence again!!
Come on 'Rainbird' don't be shy - we demand answers. After all is the College not just like social work, open, honest and ethical?
The silence is deafening!!!
Perhaps the College's 'alarm clock' isn't working - failure to answer these issues raises huge implications around independence and transparency - I hope that as a member Hilton is having his say.
Calm down dear..its commercial!!
As in??
Oh humour doesn't work ifyou haveexplain it!
Micheal Winner did an advert for an insurance company and that was the catch phrase.
"Calm down dear..its a commercial"
You seemed to be getting excited
so I thought I would link that to TCSW being funded by the govt, and previously refusing to disclose its arrangements with UNISON and in framing BASW as a commercial competitor, and framing that silence under
COMMERCIAL CONFIDENTIALITY
I thought the catch phrase would still be current because David Cameronrecently had to apologise for patronising an opposition female MP who was opposing him in parliament by saying
" Calm down dear" making a reference to that advert. ( he got a bigger laugh!)
So Calm Down Rupert..TCSW is commercial
Hilarious now eh?
No, not hilarious I'm afraid but rather utterly disgraceful that the College is not responding. Jobs for the girls?
Non-gender-specific siblings I would say. And I agree.
Rainbird ( media and PR officer for the College?) was in like a shot with her correction when I had stated Eileen Munro's actual position title incorrect, and that she was a "volunteer" ( I'm sure she has a full time public funded post somewhere else though , and may or may not be dropping her paid hours to fit this in )
Clearly she monitors these posts and is aware of the questions...and the taunts. I do think there is little chance that she will come back with an answer if she has not done so by now.
I imagine that any answer given might actually make things worse in terms of prompting even more embarrasing questions.
Alternatively, or additionally, any answer might be revealing that the assumed ownership and control of the college has been conceived in a way which is absolutely contrary to the understood principles of a professionals college.
What we actually have better fits the specifications of a "National Social Work Development Agency".
Once it is up and running in that form it will be hard for the members to change its basic structure and character..especially as they will need ministerial approval to spend any budget, (Thats if the requirement for ministerial approval before members fees could be set is the precedent.)
Even though the role was described as 'voluntary' who else had the opportunity to 'volunteer'? - it all bodes ill for the College if not recruiting to positions through 'open competition' and just appointing whosoever it wishes.
Maybe it needs JoSoPhine to ask.....strangely absent from this string?
And where are BASW members / Officials? What is BASW's view?
Well given that they are in "genuine and sincere negotions" for a final acceptable merger agreement, they would probably provoke a "deva-esque" flouncing out again, if they were seen to be critical of their potential partners at this stage.
I imagine their view would be that the post is temporary and voluntary and can be sorted easily if it is a problem once a merger has been agreed.
I think that from their rhetoric, that merger might also need to include more evidence of independence, and more reliance upon membership fees paying for the running of the college, and a more acceptable "governance = who pays the piper" relationship!
However, that is a big ask at this stage, so time will tell. And probably not too much time either, as I see April 1st as a significant date in terms of possibilities, and the existing college becoming more like set concrete!
RAINBIRD - where are you? Don't be shy - remember your Job Description!!!
You can't set 'hares' running like this and then go undergrond yourself - have a word with Maurice and his acolytes and ask for a Press Release to shut up Silver Sage and myself - because we are not going anywhere - we've got our teeth into this one.
As the College still comes under SCIE's orbit I guess that my Freedom of Information Request will legally have to produce some sort of response - why not pre-empt it?
I could try mockery again?
"So spread your tiny wings and fly away;
And take the rain back with you where it came from on that day....."
Silver Sage: I could try mockery again? "So spread your tiny wings and fly away; And take the rain back with you where it came from on that day....."
Rude? Oh F !! The Red (ana) knows rain, dear!
Silver Sage: Rude? Oh F !! The Red (ana) knows rain, dear!
I hope that members / prospective members have noted the total silence from the College in response to how Munro was 'appointed' the the new Child Care faculty - I further hope that those contemplating joining wi;; think twice and those who have joined will seriosuly consider continuing.
Who wants to be associated with a College which appears to operate in such a deceitful and underhand manner? It goes against the very ethical ethos of social work - Open; Transparent; Equal Opportunities; Independent; Member-led, who's kidding who?
Yes its gone very quiet over ther ona lot of fronts hasn't it?
What happened to Allan Bowmans "Thats an absolute no! " response to the Education select committees request that they should re-enter negotiationswith BASW. Has that happened? Ithought it was....
And what happened to community care's constant plugs and press items for them...?
One letter from the co-chairs on the Social Care white paper ( blandly suggesting something they already know the govt will approve of, and asking them to support social workers and help ensure training and systems QA..How very controversial!) and an announcement of the appointment of chair of a faculty they wont tell us about.
That seems all activity from TCSW this year.
The " College in the News " page on their website suddenly dried up last August.
What is going on.?........will a few paying members board her in April and find a " Marie Celeste" like situation?
Maybe we should ask Doris Stokes to try to communicate with them,..... but paradoxically you don't hear so much from her now she's dead do you?
( Anyone under 45 should google " Doris Stokes")
