Major success for our Stand Up Now for Social Work campaign: Take a Break (read by well over a million people) has done a really positive article about social work (thie first of several). Have you read it? It's on p7 of the 2 July issue, out in the shops today - only 78p, so it you haven't read it is it well worth picking up!
It isn't available online so here's a few excepts:
If you have read it, what did you think?
I'm urging everyone to write away for a badge, wear it with pride and send us the pictures.
I bought it and read it - passed it around the office and photocopied it! I think it's a really positive step and it all helps although I'm a bit nervous about what the response might be. I think I'll write them a letter myself though
Thanks cb - good to hear your thoughts.
I know what you mean about being nervous - I had spoken to Take a Break loads when they were preparing the article (they've been working on this for a couple of months because it took ages to find someone for them to interview!). But I was still a little nervous until I had the article in my hand and could read the whole thing! I'm really pleased with the result though.
We asked TaB to send 50 badges to the ComCare office - we're going to wear them overselves and also send them to key contacts and ministers/shadow ministers. Perhaps we shuld try some celebs too. Any ideas?
We're also asking readers to order a badge, wear it and email a photo in to comcare.campaign@rbi.co.uk. Doesn't have to show your face if you want to remain anonymous - could be a lapel shot!
More details on my blog - I accidentally gave the wrong blog link inthe post above - the right one is http://www.communitycare.co.uk/blogs/social-work-media/2009/06/act-now-to-capitalise-on-campaign-success.html.
Just about to go out and buy it.
Also saw this positive piece in the Guardian on social workers;

Thanks kymb21. Am going to post a link to that on the thread we have got going elsewhere on 'dodgy social work reporting' - nice to have a ray of hope every now and then!
Yeah I read about it a few days ago when i was at work having my coffee break x
