Hey, i am now working in rehabilitation setting where my service target is people with learning disability and mental retardation (MR). CBT case work and group work is carried out for my client for better emotional management  and behavioral modification. Do you think CBT which is good and suitable for my clients in this therapeutic process. Are there any other approaches that u think is more suitable for them. Let's share your ideas!!!!

I would say it depends on each client but then I say this as a Person-centred practitioner and in my view the therapeutic conditions of Person-centred working  have to be in place before any therapeutic difference can be made.  So for me it's all about the relationship, the way the therapist is with the client and then the experience of the dialogue becomes therapeutic in itself.  Person-centred approach works just as well with behaviour as it does with emotions.  The trick is to be very attuned with the client, calibrated to signs of their state and to trust their capacity and motivation to become their best self.
