it says the lady concerned is a social worker but i have checked the register and she is not there, i looked back over the articles on the bbc news page and it says she is a community care officer. whatever job she had it is terrible but do we really need articles like this after the year social work has had
its the same as with so much media reporting, they see social care and write social worker.
Please use the link below to contact the BBC editor responsible for publishing this article to politely point out the factual error that has been made. It is stated that if a factual error has been made then they will correct it.

Its all well and good noticing bad social work reporting but it more important to act upon it when it is found.
Thanks
It looks like they've now corrected their error.
Well done to the person who contacted the BBC and let them know and well done to the BBC for correcting it so quickly.
I know I am surprised they acted so quickly if at all! If only other media forms would make the same effort. I have also contacted the BBC about an earlier article on 24th Nov which is linked to the current story that uses the term social worker in relation to Ms Dawber as well.
Stand up for social work!
Hi all,
The Mirror have an article like this too
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/11/20/new-porn-ring-mum-is-a-social-worker-115875-21835916/
It refers to Ms Dawber as a social worker in the headline, yet by her correct title throughout the article. Seeing as the headline is the bit people are most likely to see, this is bound to give them a negative opinion of social workers. Please email them at mailbox@mirror.co.uk and ask them to change the title of this piece online, and to issue a written correction if it was printed - I already have done!
thanks for that jellybean. Done and sorted. Not expecting a similar result to the BBC article though unfortunately :(
Even if you don't want to write to them your self, please keep posting examples of bad reporting of social work on here so those of use with nothing better to do can!

well I stand corrected. I have had a letter sent to me from The Daily Mirror's legal dept thanking me for bringing it to their attention!

We're really keen to do a story on this - a real victory for social workers. But I just checked the Mirror story and the social worker headline is still there... did they say anything about when they'd change it?
No they didn't but I have emailed them back and enquired when they will. Bit annoyed that they havn't done it yet actually!
