If you are a social worker or social work student and want to post on CareSpace about issues you experience at work it's a good idea to remain anonymous. In order to remain anonymous it's a good idea to make sure you choose a nickname which does not identify you - one that is completely unrelated to your actual name is best. If your nickname does include part of your real name, be careful about what details you reveal in your posts, for example about the area you work in, as together the two details may help to identify you.

Also, if you are posting under a nickname it is best not to tell other people what it is as they then may be able to identify the people and situations you have been talking about.

It might also be worth not using a work email account to log onto CareSpace. All email notifications, including responses to your posts or direct messages, will be sent to the email address you use to register with. You may want to use a Hotmail or Yahoo or similar account instead.

HI!

I really want to change my name and adding a new nickname after reading your post. How do I do this?

Hi Andrea

It will be possible to do this once we have upgraded the system - which will happen on Wednesday.

Is it possible to change my username now the website has been upgraded? If so, how?

I'm afraid it isn't - we hoped it would be something the new system would offer but it hasn't worked out that way. The only alternative is to register again with a different email address

Ok, then how do i de register?!

Top 10 Contributor

Hi

You just need to register again with a different email address - I can then deactivate your current account.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Hi Simeon,

Could you please de-activate my account? I am not happy about posting on forum any longer two of the discussions I have been having recently have resulted in two members Nadine & Thinkpink being personal and abusive. The forum should be a place for everyone to express opinions. These opinions can obviously be challenged but a minority are having trouble doing that eloquently or professionally. Therefore as a personal development tool the CC forum has become counter productive - for me.

Thank you

Hi Betty Boop

Sorry to hear you no longer want to be involved in CareSpace. If you change your mind and have any future issues of concern please do let me know.

Markus - is there any particular reason you want your membership closed?

Thanks

Betty do you not accept that you have been abusive to the many good social workers on this forum? If you thought you could come on a forum populated by social workers and make sweeping generalisations, be generally rude and make unfounded allegations bulked up by your hyperbole and not be challenged about it then you're sadly mistaken.

I accept I didn't deal with you in the same professional way I would deal with conflict at work but at the end of the day this is an internet forum that i use in my own time. I think we are both guilty of using less than professional attitudes when posting on here over the previous week, as I said to you before if you came to a conclusion about a family as quickly and as flimsily (is that even a word?!) as you appear to have about social work then you'd be struck off.

But by the by, i would hate for you to de-register your account here on the basis of a run in with me and another user. Im happy to agree to disagree and let you get on with whatever you wish to use carespace for.

You guys dont have to deactivate your accounts, just stop using them. I think this sort of thing where peoplet ake offence at what people say on forums is a result of a lack of experiance of forum discussions. It can get heated and its the moderators job to keep things in check. Its not as though your disadvantaged compared to anyone else on the forum. Same rules for all.

I would like my account deactivated as I suppose I did not think about my own confidentiality in using the website and, given that I do not want to have to make up a new email address for using this forum alone, might like to continue using it under a different username.

Ah so people just want to change usernames? is that the issue? Or is it people being upset by comments? Ive always just used random names for forums. A girl has to keep some secrets after all Big Smile

My ears are burning, or apparently should be. No run in with me, I don't recall ever responding to any of BP's posts, anywhere. Very odd.

Hi Markus

Unfortunately our current system won't allow you to start a new account with the same email address, even if I deactivate your existing account.

I can only suggest that you start a new account using a different email address.

I recently contributed to a posting about a student who had been suspended for viewing her own personal information.  I think the overall view was that she had been wronged.

The sub plot of those postings was about oppressive management, which was not so clear cut.

I think this topic clearly illustrates the culture of fear we work in.

It needs to be addressed urgently.

Hi Simeon

Can you please delete my thread: brainstorming dementia topic//title'. I do not want my Uni to accuse me of plagiarism.

Thank you

Top 10 Contributor

Hi Sugarbabz

Would asking people for advice on an essay title really constitute plagiarism? Has your uni mentioned this to you?

Simeon

Top 50 Contributor

Not at all, it hasn't been mentioned. I was just worried.

Top 10 Contributor

I'm loathe to take the thread down, as lots of other people have contributed to it too.

Perhaps the issue of plagiarism needs some clarification - I'll look into it - unless anyone else has any thoughts?

I wouldnt say it was plagiarism, you were seeking advice and guidance, not answers and content. You only plagiarise if you pass off other peoples work as your own. I.e. if i had written a nice big paragraph for you and then you stuck it into your work, and if you did this it would be detected when they check work for plagiarism as it scans the internet for matches. I wouldn't worry. You have done nothing wrong and should panic. I'm sure i contributed to it and it was fine, thats my opinion anyway.

Top 25 Contributor

You have done nothing to panic about and shouldn't worry*

Not Ranked

I'm sure you're right that there's nothing to worry about.

However, there's obviously some uncertainty about what constiutes plagiarism so I've asked an asked an expert on the subject to write something for us. Will let you know when it's published.

Top 50 Contributor

I would have thought that any student spending time discussing and asking for advice on forums would be something to be applauded.  It demonstrates a genuine interest in what you are doing.

As a social work team manager I really enjoy seeing some of the comments and thoughts on here amd that so many people are willing to contribute. We should be encouraging debate and reflection - there is precious little time to do this at work.

It's probably wise to be careful about criticising employers though unless you are anonymous.

The Open University have provided us with some handy tips on plagiarism and online forums.

They've also done a general guide to avoiding plagiarism in essays.

Hope you find them useful.

Hi Simeon,

Please delete this profile as I wish to have a different username.

It would have been helpful to have the above advice available at the registering point.

Thank you

Hi

I can deactivate your account but you'll need to register again with a different email address.

I'm not sure it's possible to add a warning when new members register but I'll look into it.

I've received a spam message on Community Carespace. It is from someone who is offering to send me her photo if I send her my details and reply. It is reminiscent of many spurious emails/scams I've seen over the years but I'm concerned that I'm getting them via community care.

For some reason I wasn't able to open a new post so I added my post to the end of this thread.
