We're pulling together some information on the recession for a feature in Community Care and I wondered how people felt the recession was affecting them or their service users. How are things different now from a couple of years ago?

And is there anyone who has any thoughts about how this recession compares to the big recession of the 1980s. Does anyone have any memories of what it was like to be a social worker in the 80s?

Cheers

Hi Simeon,

As you know I'm not a social worker. I'm a nurse and independent trainer in the field of health and social care.

My income has dropped by about a third. Not funny - it's hard enough for 'independents' to start with.

Cheers,

Stuart

Local Authority budgets will be more restricted than ever for the next financial year.   I think that funding which local authorities make to "Voluntary Sector"  support groups in their local areas will in some cases  get chopped or the funding will be capped at the same level as this year. So no percentage increase for inflation.
