Hi,
I have an interview next week for a Social Work position in a CMHT. I'm currently working in children's services but I have quite a bit of pre qualifying experience in mental health.
I was just wondering if anyone has any advice/ tips of the sort of questions I might be asked in interview, or could advise me on what sort of things to read up on before hand.
Thanks in advance.
Someone might come along and give you some answers to your query, but also do a search for previous threads on this subject as I think there have been some. Good luck.
I am on placement at the moment in a CMHT (older adults) and although I cannot say for certain what sorts of questions they would ask, I would presume Mental Capacity and DOLs would be two things that if you aren't questioned on, you should definitley bring up. I shall have a think and perhaps even ask the Social Worker in my team if she's around on Monday and see what she says. Good luck, really hope it goes well.
is the position AOWA or OP?
hi i would make sure you are up to date with CPA policy the Recovery model basic definitions of mental disorders personalisation CBT PSI the Recovery Star assessment tool Mental Health Cluster tool The MHA1983 amended by 2007Act Mental Capacity Act DOLS
Good luck
Hi the big question is almost always about CPA. Usually asks can you explain what CPA is. Another question might be about the recovery model though they might not tell you this specifically. Another question will almost certainly be infering to care planning and / or assessment. I was asked at on interview for a CMHT about the GSCC code of condict (nobody interviewed could answer that question). Another question may be re legistation so MHA, MCA and DOLs are biggies here but dont forget other legislation e.g. NAA, NHSCCA, CSDPA, DDA etc. To be candid there are loads of different questions that they might ask but thes are some of the most likely ones.
I'm just wondering now. In these troubled times when there is a mass of S/W's trying to move from adults services to childrens due to funding cuts being more severe in adults services. Why are you trying to move the other way?
Hey there, I am a mental health social worker based in Scotland. Below are some of the questions I was asked at interview:
1) We are all very interested to know why you want to work in mental health and in a cmht
2) This council is forward thinking, what would you bring to the cmht to move us forwards?
3) Can you give an example of when you worked in a 'multi-disciplinary way'?
4) You have mentioned values, from a service user’s perspective what values do you think would be most important?
5) How are you with suicide…are you able to detach yourself?
6) Can you give an example of when some feedback you received about yourself changed your practice?
7) Can you expand on what you have already said about multi-disciplinary working…what are the difficulties in practice and how do you manage these?
8) Can you consider this scenario and how you would respond…you are on the duty desk and a person phones in and says they are feeling suicidal. What do you do?
9) We work with a number of service users who become inpatients. What would your role be whilst the service user was an inpatient?
10) What is your understanding of the Adult Support and Protection Act 2007 and how would you apply it? (Scottish Legislation)
I also had to prepare a 15 minute power point presentation and present this to the interview panel. Best of luck and try and demonstrate your passion for the role if it is really the job you would like!
