Has anyone had one here yet? Got mine at the end of the month and am trying to read and take in as much as I can. People who I've told said you'll be fine because of the type of person you are. But really at this moment in time that's no comfort, lol!
Any info would be great!
Thanks x x
Here, I mean Sheffield Hallam - sorry!
Hey I have a interview for Sheff Hallam too What sort of stuff are you reading ? Are you nervous ? If you'd like to share information etc then feel free to contact me.
Chris
I have a lot of colleagues / friends who went to Sheffield Hallam and found the experience distinctly unpleasurable; IE sociology and psychology taken in group lectures with 200 other students as part of generic Socio /psycho degree courses. Poor availability of lecturers for tutorials etc.etc.
If your'e mature students take a look at Leeds university course (not Leeds Met). it is an absolute cracker
Hi,
Thanks for replying. I'm reading anything & everything. I'm buying the guardian, daily mail newspapers etc trying to keep up on the stories which are happening and I'm reading a good book at the moment, it's a story by Sophie Andrews, a victim of sexual abuse. I can't put it down! I'm asking the Social Workers who I know what kind of things I need to be looking at and also know someone who is currently in her 2nd year at Hallam but I think it's the written exercise which I'm most worried about as it seems a large number of the other universities have given an indication of what this will be but we don't seem to have had this so I suppose it could be on anything!

Hey hey, Sounds like your preparing well then . Tommorrow is the big day if im honest im really nervous because I really have no idea what to expect. I too have been reading the guardian it has a nice section concerning social work related issues which is cool. I've also been checking out The national occupational standards for social work (see link below), I know it's a little late but a quick glance I'm sure couldn't help.

The written excercise is something I have been wondering about too although I have assured it isnt as bad as it seems. I've been told just to apply common sense to the problem and it should be fine. I'm not sure what time your interview is but i'll be there tommorrow afternoon, so if you see a ever so nervous bloke with brown hair and a bad suit come and say "Hi". Thinking about that what type of attire will you be wearing tommorrow? I really was just happy to go very casual in jeans and a jumper but after much ribbing by friends they've persuaded me to wear a suit. Anyway if I don't see you there tommorrow best of luck. Let me know the outcome.
Hi guys - dont know if you'll read this before you go to your itnerview tomorrow (best of luck by the way!) but i didnt have to do a written test when i went to my interview there the other week? Maybe you wont have to?
Have either of you heard about how good a university Sheffield Hallam is? I did my undergraduate there, and loved it - but i am looking more in depth at the running of the masters course - as i feel that i will taking my masters alot more seriously!!!!
x
Just as another note - my interview was for the masters course, so it might be different! x
Hi guys.
When did you apply to Sheffield Hallam? I have applied to them but am yet to hear back. I'm not sure if it's because my application is weaker than some of the others, or because I applied later. It's agonizing waiting to hear from them!
Sorry didn't reply before interview day, had a problem with the computer! I had mine yesterday morning, how did you get on? Did we draw the short straw with the written exercise or was it just me?!
Hey well I hope it went well for you, honestly I thought the written exercise was pretty easy I could have kept writing alot longer than needed but ohhh well people have different strengths. I had the course leader and her friend interviewing me and that was pretty much a disaster my head went blank and I couldnt even think of the simplest answers :S Ohhh well :P At least we only have two weeks to wait to find out plus theres a 1 in 2 chance of getting on the course. Unlike the interview in Swansea today where there is a 1 in 8 chance eeekkkk :S !
Let me know how you get on, Im not confident but you never know !
@ RodionRaskolnikov have you checked your ucas status to see if it has changed. Im guessing it's pretty late in the interviewing process so your best bet would be actually contacting the University directly
Hello again.
I have now heard back from Sheffield Hallam, I have an interview next Monday Were you told in advance about having to do a written exercise? There isn't a mention about having to do one in the information I have received so far.
Does anyone have any tips on what sort of questions are asked/what I should be focusing on in preparation? I'm really nervous.
Thank you.
Also, can anyone tell me how long the interview day will last?
Thanks.
i spoke to someone who had interview last year and she said they were told before that they were would be agroup interview and when she arrived it was cancelled...and then she waited arounf from 9.00 till 4 to just have a 15 min interview....i dont know what to make of this as we havent even been told about a group interview?
