Hi there guys, i have been invited for an interview by the University of Leicester to study MA Social work . I am really nervous and was hoping for tips on what the interview will require. I attended one at Keele yesterday and unfortunately failed to make it, So the pressure is on to get it right this time as i have no more offers. Also, i am willing to share my Keele experience with anyone interested.
Thanx guys..
I was interviewed by Leicester in May. First we had an exam where we had to answer a couple of questions about issues around social work, things like 'why are reports of social work in the media mostly negative?'. Then there was an interview with a couple of the teachers, asking why you want to be a social worker, what you think the difference between a BA and an MA is, how you'd go about planning a dissertation, that kind of thing. I suggest you read around things like the Fiona Pilkington case (which happened around Leicester), read everything that's on CC, maybe watch the program about SWers that's on the BBC - they'll have watched it too. Good luck!
Thanx 4 the tips, I really need luck coz I tend to panick under pressure. I need to read around current social care issues as my knowledge on that is somehow backdated ( baby p).. How was the group interview for u if u had one. Oh and how long did u have to wait before the outcome of the interview.

Haven't been on here before - I know it is cheeky but I'm interested (desperate) to find out how the keele day went. I have got an interview coming up and wonder what the writing test was like? Did they tell you on the day if you got on the course or were you told later? I am worried...... :) Any help would be gratefully received. Good luck with Leicester (or have you had the interview already?)
Hi blueskies,
Hoping this finds u in time b4 ur interview. A healthy tip for the exam, read around issues of ethnic minority adoption coz the question you will need to answer will be "critically evaluate how the article they give you impacts on social work practice"...Unfortunately i murdered that bit as i had not really prepared so did not go through, i knew even b4 the results came out if i am being honest...I have been to the Leicester one, and hopefully it will be good news, at least i was better prepared this time..Good luck just be relaxed, and if the interview is anything like the Leicester one i had, u will need to show knowledge of ur current academic studies (assuming u are doing an undergraduate degree) and also why u want to be a social work, usual stuff like the qualities and values of a social worker...U might be asked what literature u used in preperation to ur studies so have that somewhere at the back of your head....
Hello Beamwood,
Just wanted to know if you have heard from Leic, I just has interview there today and am so disappointed with myself for not elaborating further on some questions in the 1 to 1. How long did it take for a reply?
Liyah
Hi Liyah
I had my reply following week, they had said about 2 to 3 weeks. I had the same feeling as well afterwards but got an offer. Just keep your fingers crossed, all the best.
