Hey!

I've got an interview on 22nd March for the 2010 MA Social Work intake at Manchester Uni. Have been to a couple of other interviews and this should be my last one, just wondering if has anyone else got an interview there on the same day?

I'm on the MA at Manchester at the moment in my first year.  Feel free to add me as a friend and PM me if you have any questions about the course.  I was interviewed two years ago as my entry was deferred due to maternity leave, so it might have changed a bit since, but the interview is really straightforward - 30 mins with the obvious types of questions and a case study with a couple of related questions.

good luck!

Hi Karen,

So far they've been OK and I've had an offer from Royal Holloway, but am really keen on Manchester so fingers crossed!

Good luck for the 25th, I'll let you know what to expect once I've had mine if that helps!

Hi Amber and Karen,

I've also got an interview at Manchester on the 25th at 1.10pm. Really not sure what to expect though as it doesn't seem to be very long. Did I see someone mention about having a case study? Does anyone know what kind of preparation this involves?

Hey Bethan!

Mine is at 3.10pm on the 25th! I still havent got my actual letter from them, just an email giving me the time and place!

Does the letter give any idea how long the interview will be!?

I too saw somthin about a case study..not really sure how you could prepare for that..have just stocked up on books from library so have a weekend of cramming ahead!!

My interview was 2 years ago,but imagine the format is similar.  It was about 30mins.  Some general questions about own experience (worth reflecting on this beforehand so you have a ready stock of examples) then the case study.  You have 30 mins to consider it (slightly longer if they're running late) and can make notes on it. When I did it you had a choice of 2, but if you consider how broad social work is, it's worth having thought about something a bit bigger than just a niche area if your experience is in quite a limited area.

good luck!

Ooh, now I'm a bit confused. Mine is Monday but the letter didn't mention a case study at all, just a 30 minute interview. Hmm, oh well! Am going to go along and hope for the best.

Hi!

Sorry for not replying - I wasn't getting any e-mails saying there had been responses.

Karen and Amber - How did your interviews go? I didn't think it was too bad. I found the case study quite interesting and I was quite surprised about how much I had to say about it. Do either of you know when we'll hear back from Manchester? I've got it into my head that it'll be at least a couple of weeks, but I'm not sure.

Hey Bethan,

I was going to post after my interview, but knew you both had yours after mine so didn't want to put a downer on it. Mine, basically, went really badly. I couldn't answer the questions, ran out of things to say about the case study and got myself into a right fluster, I could tell they weren't impressed with me at all. I didn't even stick around to do the CRB stuff afterwards I just left!

Argh! Such a nightmare, was really disappointed in myself, however, I have three other offers and am thinking that Manchester just wasn't meant to be for me.

However, well done on yours! Good luck, I hope you get an offer.

Hiya!

Oh no, I'm so sorry it didn't go well for you. It might have gone a lot better than you thought though - you never can tell with these things. Who interviewed you? I can't remember the names of my interviewers at all, but I was in a small room downstairs in the Atrium. It was very stuffy with no natural light, which I wasn't impressed with at all!

If you've got 3 other offers, I suppose it's not too much to worry about. I'm just waiting to hear back from Manchester then I'll make my choice. I've pretty much decided to go to Lancaster. I just went along to the Manchester one for a bit more experience in interviews. Which university are you most keen on going to out of your offers?

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Hey!!

Wel I dont really know what to say about the interview..I dont think it went the best and when I came out I was pretty annoyed with myself! But then again I feel like you never can tell.. I just rushed through all the questions and then realised I had run out of oppourtunities to say any more so didnt say all I wanted to! But I liked the case studies and did have a lot to say on that..so just gotta wait and see!!

I was interviewed by John somebody I think..the social worker who was also interviewing me was really nice and seemed real interested in what I had to say! I was told that that day was last day of interviews and that I should know in 3-4 weeks! But i heard the girl doin the CRB stuff say that we would know this week..which made me think that I  was kind of bein fobbed of by interviewer as I did badly!

Congrats to you both on getting offers elsewhere!!

I hate this waiting part!!

Well done!!! I heard today as well, I got rejected (boo!) but to be fair I knew the interview had gone badly and luckily have had offers from all my other choices. Am off to Edinburgh Uni instead which I'm very excited about!

Good luck! I hope it all goes well for you.

Hey everyone!

I also got offered a place like you Karen, but I don't think I'll be taking them up. I'm pretty much set on going to Lancaster because I got a much better feel from the place. Also, as I'm not going to be living on campus, I think Manchester's a bit too big for my liking!! Well done on getting a place though. I'm made up for you Smile

Amber - I agree with Karen. It really is Manchester's loss if you've been accepted everywhere else apart from there. It's obvious SW is for you! How exciting going to Edinburgh. You'll have a great time there!

I also had notification on UCAS. I've had no other contact with Manchester other than the invite to an interview. I hope you hear soon Charlie!

Bethan

Ps. Has anyone actually replied about their choices on UCAS yet? I'm scared to take the plunge!!

Hie Charlie

I think the university is a bit slow. I submitted my application in december around the 10th and was only called for the interview last week. Yesterday they sent me an offer through UCAS track. Try to send them an email and find out the status of your results. Have you attended interviews elsewhere.

Hey!

Congrats Bethan on your offer but if Lancasters what you want then great - hope it all goes really well for you!!!

I havent replied yet either..but Im still waiting to hear back from some places so I presume u dont have to reply until you hear from all right?

Yea check UCAS track with regards offers..but mayb email them if you havent heard soon!

Hi Karen,

That's right - you can't reply on UCAS until you've heard from all the unis you applied to. I've decided I'm going to take the plunge today, so I hope it all goes well!

Again, if no one's heard anything, I was told to get in touch with the university this week to hurry them up. It might be a good idea just to give them a nudge and see what happens.
