I have an interview for an MSW in social work on the 12th Dec. I know they are going to ask about current debates in social work practice and theories underpinning social work. Can anyone help with either of these? I have a book on social work theories but its hard to know which ones i should focus on in terms of most relevant. In terms of current debates, my intial thoughts are the personalisation agenda, lack of resources and current ecomonic climate, and possibly adpoption rates. Im not sure whether im barking up the right tree. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
I think you are barking up the right tree. When I had an interview for MSW I was asked if I was likely to consider getting pregnant whilst doing the course. I am sure your preparation will throw any interviwer off such an irrleevant and sexist steer.
@ being asked if you were 'likely to get pregnant'!
Yes, so looking at the preparation for MSW hopeful I think they have all the right ideas. It could also be useful to think ahead about a possible idea for your thesis/long assignment. This might impress them.
Thanks mhsw, its reassuring to know im on the right track, good idea about preparing some thoughts on a thesis. Can't believe you were asked if you were considering getting pregnant! I can only hope that was a very long time ago!
More importantly, it was by a man. At the time I was classed as a socialist feminist....so it wasnt that long ago because people can still recall what those words meant!
It will impress them to hear what you are interested in so even if they don't ask about thesis....your idea will be with you for use in the interview which will inevitably be slightly competetive. Good Luck
