Is access to the GSCC registration for Social Workers a Threat

I would like to know what the GSCC is doing to protect workers from disgruntled and at time violent and agressive parents being able to access our numbers and our places of work. Who is protecting the Social Worker whilst the Social Worker is protecting the child?

I thought the only information available from the register was name and place of work (i.e. city)? I think unfortunately anyone who has a name to go on and is determined can probably get a fair amount of information that is 'out there' - Facebook for example. I tend to be a bit careful about information I leave in a public arena in any sense.

I think you should be more worried about your car registrations. With a car registration you can acess all the details needed to find you. I have been told by several cafcass workers that some 'fathers' groups used this method to doorstep and intimidate them.

And yes, the only details are name and place of work ie; LA, on the registar which the parents will know anyway.

I have an unusual surname and would be easy to locate- it must be difficult if you have young children and possibly be located.

I agree Julie. I also have a very unusual surname (only 5 in UK), and I worry about been tracked, but as already said, my concern is not so much the GSCC registration as the general availibility of information on the internet.

I am very careful about my information and where I put it, but as a mother of 2 teens I know they are not quite so vigilant, especially where using our surname is concerned (as they cannot see any reason not to include it on facebook etc).

It is a worry I am sure all front line professionals have had, and unfortunately, it is usually a worry that comes with the job.

More importantly than the GSCC, is the electoral role. I have now taken myself off the 'public' one after a client decided to find out where I lived via this and paid me a visit!

This concerns me a lot as being a student I can't afford to travel so my next PLO will be close to my home. I have even found myself wondering about changing to a less noticable car (the current one is noticable by it's rust to car ratio).

I have to say though Lins that you seem to have posted more info here about yourself than is available on the GSCC register.  Are you not concerned about the security aspect of the internet?

We are supposed to be protected allegedly on here but I must say I do now have my doubts but lets face it anyone can get anything about you these days. What concerns me about the registration is that they give the info out to anyone owh logs onto the GSCC website.

    Hi Lins

What do you mean when you say you don't feel like you are protected on here?
