I was just wondering what people thought about the idea of making substance misuse training a mandatory part of the social work degree and post-qualifying learning.
A leading social work academic, Sarah Galvani, has said last week's government drug strategy has a huge hole in it - notably a failure to tackle the skills gap for social workers in dealing with substance misuse, given its ubiquity in practice.
Galvani, who is currently carrying out a survey into the adequacy of social worker training in substance misuse, wants it to be a mandatory part of the degree and post-qualifying training.
Would this be a good idea?
