Scarlett Keeling and the Daily Mail's coverage

I recently came across a Daily Mail article with the headline: 'Revealed: The shoddy caravan site where mother of murdered Goa teenager Scarlett brings up her unorthodox family'. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=531388&in_page_id=1770. While I completely agree with the criticism made of Fiona MacKeown for leaving  her 15-year-old  daughter Scarlett Keeling with a 25-year-old Goan tour guide I don't see how the fact that they live in a caravan site is at all relevant. MacKeown, in my opinion, made a bad judgement call, but  'the shoddy caravan site' which is home to her and her children is, in my mind, totally separate to this. The way the mail article reads it's like they are condeming everyone who lives in a caravan. What do others think?

In such a diverse society which we live in today I agree what on earth is where she lives got to do with the fact that this young person has been murdered. I agree that her mother has unothodox methods of parenting such as leaving the young girl with a guide. However, how long had she known the guide for maybe a long time? we don't know because that is the press for you. Also the allergation that the press is making is that if you don't live in a two up two down in a nice area you aren't a good parent is it not?. It is very sad that this young person has lost her life and surely the press should putting pressure on the Gaon authorities not only to investigate the death to bring about justice but also to provide a safe environment for tourists to enjoy their country  without the fear of crime.

Yes, I think the point they are trying to make is exactly that if you don’t live in a nice area in a nice house then you are a bad parent which is terrible. Without getting too melodramatic it is sad that a paper that puts across such views shifts so many copies.

I agree. The woman must be devastated to be the subject of a witch hunt but lets face it , these days young people are having sex earlier and earlier and the mother trusted her daughters "boyfriend" and his family to take care of her.        Bad judgement certainly but if it wasnt for the mother protesting a 2nd autopsy would never have been carried out and this young life would have ended without appropriate investigation.
