    Shameless

Shameless the Channel 4 programme does anyone here watch this ? When it first came out in 2004 it was raw in it's content, my friend who was training to be a social worker laughed roared in fact. The series showed a lovely well spoken boy ,who obviously came from a decent home was placed with some peroxide blonde and her husband who were dsyfunctional as they come. He said look that is like you . The SW claimed it was emotional harm for taking him and placing him with them. 2008 the programme is very well known and highlights beautifully how early on the tv producers captured the information and put it out for people to digest is this right ! to take well adjusted happy sociable self contained children and remove them and place them with unsuitable carers. Think the stero type was flashing her upper torso on web cam whilst doing the ironing on one series .and her husband the bigggest robber on the estate . I record this programme on my sky box and Question Time and watch later .It is on after the watershed due to content .

Hi I watch Shameless every week. i find the contents are at times very bare knuckle but it is very addictive. The characters have changed over the years and have softened but what is so facinating is how in all the dysfunction that is occuring they do care about each other and are there for each other.

Lins, I have to agree with you on this they do all see to care about each other. Moving on now what grounding for a teenager LOL as Franks daughter seems to be the over burdened with the resposibility as head of the household. The characters are full of personality. I loved the way the policeman *** spare pair of pants in the shopkeepers knicker draw and she went ape over this LOL. The roles have been reversed when it comes to recreational sex and relationships etc. It is bare knuckle and I confess to the fact cringed ever so slightly on the sofa as it first went live. It was too close to home and the truth to be laughing about it ! My friend is from Dublin and I am a scouser were laughing then I said it is tragic too as it is so bang on about issues etc.We were brought up with the drink culture and it done us no harm . She works for Social Services as a carer and the stories she comes out with. I do not know how she does the job! She is very caring but very political too .

Im sure Shameless has been talked about on here before. I think its a cracking show and as you both said very close to the bone but thats why its so popular.I remember hating all the characters when it first came out.....too many similarities with my own surroundings and upbringing. There was a so how on about the guy who wrote it and it was really enlightening. Most of the characters are based on people he either knew or was related to.

I love Shameless, so much so that we're thinking of having a shameless themed party in the summer where everyone has to come dressed as the characters.

I think Lilian has to be my favourite  - she is hilarious! and when Frank woke up in hospital and had the sheet over his face because his breath was offending the other patients, I couldn't stop laughing!

Sorry, but I think that is a bit sick.  I have never seen it nor want to from what I have read.  So are you mocking the characters or copying them?  Think about it.

Hi Millen I'm sorry but maybe you should watch the programme before making comment. It is not everybodies cup of tea but to say it is sick is a bit strong. You go for it Ed if you want a themed party why not who are we to tell you what you can do.

Think you mis-understood. To have a party to celebrate the underclass...  For people who are supposed to be raising society up, sounds a bit odd to me.  That is what I find sick....seems to go against everything your profession is supposed to stand for. What next? You going into schools to say Bianca Jackson and Karen Matthews are great role models?

Joe Public would not see the irony or sarcasm in this.  (I mightGeeked)

I still do not think that it is appropriate for you to say what you said sorry but freedom of speech works both ways. If ed wants a shameless theme party then that is fine. As for Bianca being a role model who is putting the underclasses down and what is an underclass or is that another label we place on people.

    Re: Shameless

Thanks Lins and of course it was not intended to mock the underclass Millen! I think you might have read too much into it - it would be just like having a Coronation Street party where we would dress up as Corrie characters and would that mean I was mocking people from the north!? I better clarify that straight away - of course it wouldn't! Sorry if I offended anyone, that certainly wasn't the intention but I think to call me "sick" for having a themed party may be a little harsh.

Perhaps I'd better play safe in the summer and have a good old picnic instead !

What I meant was just the idea of it sounded a bit "orf" to me.  But then, I have never seen Corrie as well! (my mother would just hear the music and groan very loudly yelling "get that tripe off the TV now!")

And note, I did not say YOU were "sick"- I said the idea sounded abit "sick" to me- celebrating and joking about people with bad manners and poor education. Perhaps my wording was a bit strong and for that I apologise.

anne_123, I am an avid fan of Shameless and I do like Lillian & also Mimi even her man who is called Paddy. Growing up in Liverpool was a great experience and if I remember it right the women were a special breed of human beings . This was important having such strong role models. The biggest impact was the kindness and spontaneity that sadly this day and age lack now. The community spirit and knowing you could rely upon your neighbours and friends too. I mean beat half of you do not know your neighbours at all. I know birthdates and never miss a birthday . Also my neighbours are not living in my pocket but are a great bunch of people. For instance when I went to hospital with my son they come and picked up my case from an NHS centre as I had to leave it there an go in the ambulance. We had no clothes little money . They all rallied round and came to help us. One lady who has a key to my house , emptied the case and washed and ironed everything for me. My sons friends mum brought up computer games . I have to stop now as it was just endless the help and kindness of people to a family in crisis. Mimi is a classic type of scouser and will always be accepted as a rough diamond. Lillian is kind and Motherly type too. I would have loved to see the call centre sadly I missed this episode . If you do a party then please do a POD CAST so we can all have a laugh!!!!
