Who will be mayor for London?

Last night's Newsnight was a hoot - three mayoral candidates - old ken, brian paddick (lib dem) and silly boris all grizzled and wobbled their way through a grilling by paxo. Some comments on the Newsnight blog are hilarious, not least because of their spelling mistakes - "After watching the program,Boris is a bafoon,Ken not be trusting like the labour party the clear winner is brain who spoke sense and has the experance," wrote one viewer. Another viewer gave the best shot: "I think we should allow Ken Livingstone to continue his good job for London. As for Boris Johnson, he behave like one that has mental problem and it will be suicide to give him London." !!

What a hoot that you find reference to “mental problem” so hilarious. If you were serious about the politics of these candidates you would find many policies espoused by Ken Livingstone as reprehensible as any the others espouse. There very credible left wing arguments against Ken Livingstone whether based on the damage he has done to London through his support for multinational property developers, support for homophobic and sexist clerics or his wilful disregard towards the unethical practices of his political advisers. He does not represent my idea of the left and I hope your disparaging attitude towards mental illness does not represent the social work view.

I like your critique of Ken, that is very interesting. re mental illness, no it does not represent my view, I am just citing the view of someone else which could be construed as ridiculous, or you could take offence. I personally do not think taking offence at every silly comment about mental illness is a constructive use of my time - and also, the joke is on Boris this time. Bit of silly childish mudslinging, where's your sense of humour?

Considering 1 in 4 people will experience mental health problems at some point in their life this is an issue that affects us all.  Im currently doing my bit for the statisticians :) but I still believe in having a laugh. If we cant laugh at ourselves..who can we laugh at :)

I thought anti discriminatory practice was what were about or does this only apply to the certain area? As for mudslinging and sense of humour eye of the beholder I'm afraid. Pays your money y and takes your choice, the new social work way
