The migrant crimewave "myth" and the Daily Mail

Yesterday it was reported that a study by the Association of Chief Police Officers had concluded that a crimewave led by migrants to the UK was a "myth," or so the Guardian put it....today the Daily Mail has turned this on its head, saying this was "spin" and claiming the contents of the full report, leaked to the Mail, reveal otherwise. How is it possible to establish the truth about immigration, and its impact on public services, when the whole debate is so skewed by hysteria? Read The Guardian report here, and the Daily Mail report here.

The Daily Express also went front page on why the migrants have caused a massive crime wave.

But the Mail let the cat out the bag when it said: "Police say that while migrants are as likely to be arrested as a British citizen, processing them takes up more time and costs more through translation costs because they speak little or no English."

which means that they are no more likelier to be arrested. The reports honed in on the different type of crimes committed by migrants "massive increase in sex trafficking" etc.

Anyway good news is that Daily Express journalists might be going on strike for three days. Maybe we should collect money for a hardship fund so they stay out longer!

I could really understand how some immigrants turn to crime . many are lured here by the promise of work and accomodation only to be dumped in a strange counrty knowing no one. Desperate people will do desperate things to survive. There was a report in my local paper about a landlord who rented a one roomed flat to a family of 7. The toilet was positioned next to the cooker. There was no hot water. There was a toddler living there also. He was ordered to close the premises and the east european family have since been rehoused.
