    Donkey charity gets more money than abuse charities - why?

    The British public gives more to a Devon-based donkey sanctuary than the most prominent charities trying to combat violence and abuse against women, a report released today by a leading philanthropy watchdog reveals. Read report here

    That is so depressing. I just think many people aren't that bothered about helping others and see those with problems as bringing them on themsevles. I am always frightened by how many friends of friends (not my close friends I hasten to add) vote tory!

    My sister used to adopt me a donkey from there! I was talking to someone from Age Concern the other day about how children's charities/cancer charities receive a lot of donations etc, whereas organisations like Age Concern don't get as many because of the prominance of those issues in the news, and the fact that people seem to be more sensitive to issues surrounding children/animals than older people, for example. In this case, I think one explanation might be just that people don't like to think of domestic violence happening, and if it doesn't directly concern you, a lot wouldn't think to go searching for such a charity to donate money to.
