homeless 16 and 17 year olds seem to be bottom of the pile

The vast difference in the level of service offered to care leavers and young people made homeless at 16 or 17 became very apparent to me on a recent visit to a council. While the care leavers were housed in a bright, modern swish house, with a live in worker, the care leavers, although only temporarily, were sent to a rundown hostel. While I completlely agree with the care leavers being provided with excellent facilities, and I apperciate that this won't be the case in many areas, the difference between what was on offer for the two groups, despite them having similar needs, struck me.

I guess the issue is that councils just have a greater responsibility to continue looking after young people who have been in their care. Perhaps there is something unfair in that but I'm not sure

I agree that there is an arguement that care leavers should come first. I suppose it's back to the old eligibility crieria thresholds issue again.
