    Use of forum quotes

An academic researcher has got in touch asking if they could use some of the comments made in CareSpace for their research - it's about the role of the media in stereotyping social workers. They assure us that all quotes will remain anonymous. Does anyone have a problem with this?

    Thanks

It would be interesting for the academic to come on here themselves and tell us what they are doing

lets get social workers into schools and get that soap.

Not all contributors are social workers though.

It occurs to me that Registered Social Workers could be identified through a non-disclosed log-in using their GSCC Registration numbers. As long as those were kept secret then it would at least identify those of us who are GSCC registered.

Hi Justme - that's a good idea - I'll get in touch with the academic and ask them if they'd like to post.

Rupert M, it's a good suggestion but I don't think we have the adminstrative systems in place to be able to verify people's GSCC registrations

bit late this reply - but maybe the academic could email those who posted the quotes he/she wants to use to clarify if this is a SW or service user comment

    Hi all,

This is the "academic" interested in using some of your quotes in my media study. Thank you Simeon, for the introduction and the info.

I am currently doing a study on media representations of social workers in UK and instead of just focusing on the articles published in the newspapers/ tabloids, I would like to present the "other" side of social workers. I am based in Sweden but was at LSE for a year and a half for fieldwork, during which I interviewed around 20 social workers. It is through them that I got to know about this site. I read some of the threads here and thought it would be useful to present the social workers "world" (their concerns and worries), in their own words.

I promise confidentiality. If anyone needs to know details about my academic affiliations and/ or contact details, please contact Simeon. I will be happy to communicate (in private) about my work if anyone wishes to talk to me about it in more detail. You will also have access to my written work, I can provide anyone who's interested in my papers with manuscripts of papers that I would later hope to get published.

Thank you all, for your patience, and to Mandy and Lins for their positive response :)

Simeon, please feel free to circulate information about me if any of the members asks for it. Thanks again for your help!
