    Social Work Entry Test

Hi a bit of a cheeky question for my first post, but I have an entry test tomorrow with a view of starting the Social Work degree cousre this September, could someone give me an idea of what sort of test they completed prior to starting the course.

    Many thanks Rag1

    Re: Social Work Entry Test

Well, it's about 10 years since I did my entry test so it might have changed in the meantime!

But I got a couple of case studies and was asked to comment on various aspects of the situation presented. They were both in areas that I had no experience of but it was looking for the things that you would look for in the situations - such as looking at needs very broadly and not in terms of service provision, in an anti-oppressive framework and some common sense. They weren't looking for 'right' answers (as I had no idea at that point what a right answer would be) but just thoughtful and attentive.

Of course, they might have completely changed the structure of them now!

    Re: Social Work Entry Test

hi i am in my second year of the social work degree. i did not have an entry test to get on the course but i did have a rigorous interview. my advice would be to look at social work values -the BASW code of ethics is brilliant to start with, the anti oppressive model of social work and have a bit of knowledge about current policies that are effecting social work and service users. a good book to persuse if you get the chance before your test is N. Thompson understanding social work.

    good luck

As you asked the question what would the test be like, now that you had it maybe you could fill us in on what it was like.

    Best of luck.

    Re: Social Work Entry Test

intresting question I guess a bit of reflection, well the initial test consisted of 4 mathematic questions, a comprehensive paragraph which was written incorrectly which required noting the mistakes and correcting them, the rest of the test was based around 4 or 5 case scenrios which required the applicant to write what support plan they would devise, I believe that was gauge someone ones knowledge of the social care field.

I hope that answers your question

    Cheers Rag1
