Surely it would depend on individual perks associated with working with a particular LA. They are not all the same. best to inquire with the actual LA you want to work for I think.

Social workers are often considered key workers, so may be entitled to rent/buy certain properties through Homebuy or Housing Options for example. These properties are often limited though, and may have certain conditions attached (e.g. joint income of a key worker and their partner not being above a set amount, or the key worker must work for a specified local authority).  Google "key worker housing" and the name of the LA you work for, or speak to your manager or the housing department in your LA for more information on key worker schemes.

Social workers are not entitled to Housing Benefit, Income Support or suchlike simply by virtue of being employed by a local authority.  Using my rough details as a single full-time social worker in London with no dependents in a government benefits calculator ( found at http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/DoItOnlineByCategory/DG_172666), I'm entitled to precicely beggar all in benefits, as I imagine most other social workers would be.

There is no connection between a Job Title and Housing Benefit, at least I no of none.

25% single adult occupancy Council Tax Relief? Not being cheeky, being serious, though you've probably already thought of it.

I actually live with my parents *groan!* so don't need to worry about benefits for myself; I just plumbed my own details through the calculator  for the sake of an example for the OP. Thanks for pointing that out though, I'd forgotten about single occupancy council tax reduction - take note OP, every little helps as Tesco say!
