The other one appeared too ;)

I studied here, for my first degree (Applied Social Sciences) which I changed to from BSc SW.

I wasn't ready for SW, but did share the first semester courses with them.

The university itself is good, quite modern, and in the process of redeveloping the main site (right next to the H&SC building)

Abz is a great place to work, study and live - I miss it, still planning to go back but it won't be till the MSc finishes ;)

Feel free to ask any questions, I will do my best to answer.

I don't know. But all courses are registered with the SCCC which will monitor the courses meet a certain standard.

Which part of Ireland?? There is a Northern Irish Social Care Council - you could email them and check, or the Irish equivalent.

There were a few Irish on the course when I was there.

Thanks. I'm in the rep of Ireland. I emailed the coru herebut they said I'd have to apply after I finish the course to see if it is reg which to be honest is too late as can't afford to waste money if course not reg.  I'm waiting on an email back from them see if they can be more of a help.

Hi I have also discussed this with coru. the feeling i get is that if the course is short of the irish standared in any way you can usually compensate for that some way..eg do more sw experience hours etc... im going to apply this year.

this is what RGU SAYS-

The issue of registration with CORU seems to be a bit of an ongoing one. At present the Irish students on the course are just half way through their final year. I guess the real information will start to emerge once they pursue registration with CORU in Autumn of 2012.

The Course Leader, Robert Buckley, did speak to a member of CORU staff in September of this year. I have pasted below the info he gathered:

" I spoke with Aoife Sweeney from CORU regarding the recognition of our B.A. (Hons.) in Social Work by Distance Learning. In many respect nothing has changed with the creation of the new regulatory body in Ireland.

Aoife advised that they do not see a need to meet with RGU as we had previously offered. They do not see any specific issues about the course that needs clarification and view our course the same as any other UK based course. Their policy is that anyone who wants to work in Ireland and has a UK social work qualification, has to have their qualification recognised by CORU before they can register as a social worker. It is worth noting that this process requires the payment of an administration fee. Previously this was done on an individual basis by NSWQB and this will be the same approach that CORU will take. They are aware of both the under graduate and post graduate courses at RGU and the fact that a number of students come over to Aberdeen to study and then return home. The fact that the course is taught by Distance Learning was not raised by CORU as an issue. As I have said previously the method of delivery is a matter for each University. All qualifications are validated and approved by the Scottish Social Service Council as meeting the Standards in Social Work Education. Albeit that we are talking about small numbers but I am not aware of any specific issues with our course and recognition in Ireland."

At present some students from Ireland have gone ahead and applied to do the course in 2012. Others are still waiting for more information. As I say that is likely to be clearer next Autumn.
