I think it is commendable for Unison and the School of Social work to want to review the case loads of Social Workers and ensure that we are paid for extra hours.

The problem with this is that unless it is properly legislated it will be simply put down as reccomendations and guidlines which are unenforceable.

If they want to be taken seriously and make an impact then they need to be aiming a bit higher and have something tighter in the form of an Act . I have been saying for years there needs to be a Social Work Act outlining the way and manner in which we work . Without this childrens lives will still be in peril, abuses will still occur and the Children Act (s) will continue to have no bite and we will still be where we wer thrity years ago. No real change or development.
