jelly_tot04:That's of course if you're striking Watching jeremy kyle? A spot of xmas shopping? Chilling? Demonstrating/joining a picket line Let us kno what your plans are during the strike....
ill be on Placement. its great, maybe ill have one day where I wont be arguing (Yea i did finish that module on multi professional working but when they are wrong, they are just wrong lol) with social workers who are ready to go of on maternity leave and who realy don give a cr@p no more about service users.
Not sure. Don't want to sit at home. Maybe will go to the Manchester rally.
On picket line
picket line then rally/march
Don't forget to collect all the rubbish left behind - placards etc. Who knows they may come in useful again!!!
Rupert M: Don't forget to collect all the rubbish left behind - placards etc. Who knows they may come in useful again!!!
You remind me of Uncle Bulgaria.

Well, If that's your attitude towards your colleagues, I hope I never have to work with you....
I'll be picketing, then rallying locally with other unions, before joining the London rally.
Well more overtime for the Police trying to maintain law and order in London (and elsewhere) - let's see what fringe lunatic Organisations infiltrate the Strike to cause trouble.
Many police will be striking too, Rupert http://www.lep.co.uk/news/health/police_staff_join_public_sector_strikes_1_4012226
Underground, overground, wombling free, The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we. Making good use of the things that we find, Things that the everyday folks leave behind. Uncle Bulgaria, He can remember the days when he wasn't behind the times, With his map of the world. Pick up the papers and take them to Tobermory! Wombles are organised, work as a team. Wombles are tidy and Wombles are clean. Underground, overground, wombling free, The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we! People don't notice us, they never see, Under their noses a Womble may be. We womble by night and we womble by day, Looking for litter to trundle away.
Oh dear, don't know why the print is sooo big.
'Selks' - do please try to read and assimilate - the Police do NOT strike and will NOT be striking - only Support / Civilian staff.
I hope that you pay more attention to detail in your work and not allow emotion or what you THINK you know to get in the way - evidence-based I think it is called!!!
My mistake, but do calm down Rupert. Wouldn't wish you to have a coronary.
Thank you but I am getting very worked up about this silly strike - it will cost the Country a lot of money it can ill-afford and is not a 'battle' that can be won in the present economic climate.
I just wish that social workers especially had more sense.

are students expected to still go to placement then?
what placement type are you in? it doesn't sound as if it's a positive experience. is it the SW'ers who are going off on maternity who dont give a stuff about service users or is all the SW'ers?
I am sure they should be expected to go into work. After all tis not their battle and wouldnt impact them. They are required to complete 100 days of placement. Striking would not count and it would be a waste of a day which would have to be added onto the placement!
I will be going to work! I hope it is cold and raining tomorrow! I can watch the strikers from my warm office as they get soaked whilst I sip on a nice cup of Earl Grey.

The usual tosh Rupert M, admire the consisteantly garbbing of the wrong end. Tell us why our strike will cost the country but the extra bank holiday our glorious prime minister is giving us to celebrate her majesty the queen being a golden person will not?
GMWXP: I will be going to work! I hope it is cold and raining tomorrow! I can watch the strikers from my warm office as they get soaked whilst I sip on a nice cup of Earl Grey.
Us hardy northern types will be out in the rain relishing the cold and wet in our short sleeves and high heels while thinking about you and the state of your nose
I am a Northerner too. It has nothing to do with Brown nosing! I am leaving this place in Feb anyway. Quite simply if I wanted to throw away money I would piss it away at least I would enjoy myself!
I am confident that nothing will come of this strike! Parents will be frustrated they have to take the day off work/childcare costs, passengers who flights are delayed/holidays spoilt will definitely thank the Unions for their support and social workers....well no one gives a {enter expletive}....until of course any serious incidents [god forbid] a death occurs as a result of SW striking which will lead to yet more positive press for the profession!
UNIONS well done!
Those extra bank holidays you mentioned I am sure u declined them and preferred to work for the normal rate! It was a NATIONAL holiday for all. Not for a select few.
Why do striking union member always sit on their high horse when addressing non-striking colleagues! Typical Union bullying tactics!

A thirfty northerner eh? Bad press for social work? Not your concern if you are leaving in Feb so I would just calm down and do your managers bidding and count your pennies. It's oh so fresh outside.
No I am not leaving social work just the public sector! I love social work and I intend on working until I reach 68 or whatever age the government wants me to work.
Come back in a few months and we will see how effective your striking has been.

Have you finished that essay?
which one?
lovecats; some just cannot work it out; but you can take off the dunce's hat and off to the top group.
nigel reigate: Well, If that's your attitude towards your colleagues, I hope I never have to work with you....
Nigel its not an attitude towards colleagues. its an issue I have with having to work with those that have forgotten that their actions have direct impact on other peoples lives. And if they did not forget, they must not give a damn. Now if that makes you not want to work with me, your loss my friend. I kinda like working with people that tell me straight when/ if im acting like a div, and can take it when I do the same.
"acting like a div"? is this the all inclusive anti-discriminatory mind set of the personally sacrificing always the service user focused never doing harm mindful of how impacting on other peoples lives social worker Dutchconnectionuk? The future of social work is so so rosy with such an enlightened one as you.

Hi jelly tot,
Im with a voluntary organization. problem is we work closely with the local Childrens and adult teams, but I have come accross... well how can I say this without causing offence... SWers that are past their sell by date. honoustly they are working with people in crisis and these guys are trying to close a case, leading me to get into big discussions with them and their managers (Cases are still open ) My placement is absolutely fabulous I love it. Im getting loads of support from my managers and given enough freedom to make my own decisions. Dont get me wrong I get that it is easier to work in voluntary services, its pretty much "being the nice guys" all the time, but when you are trying to work with some people, event rying to help them do their job and they just dont care.... It gets very frustrating. (Ill talk to you 5 years after qualifying, see if I havnt turned into a burnt out husk of a man )

Lovecats, thank you it is nice to see when my peers acknowlege my sacrafices and superiority (did I mention the Dutch can be sarcastic too)
What sarcasm? Maybe you can let us know the 'division' between sarcasm and humour in the orange nation?
redana: lovecats; some just cannot work it out; but you can take off the dunce's hat and off to the top group.
But redana I am wearing on the picket!
dede: As a service user affected by the strike I will like many others SU's be home alone not be able to go to my day centre as its shut because of strike
Without the strikers your day centre's days are numbered. Shut for ever. Now that will hurt the service users.

Not my loss, I think pal. Glad to hear you can take it out as well as dish it out, so here goes. Your colleagues and I [a Social Worker with 20 years experience] don't need snide lectures on how our actions impact on others' lives. We've often worked beyond my job description [and this has caused me, and others I know serious health problems in the past]. How dare you insult competent and hard working QUALIFIED staff, who have every right to say enough is enough and to act when our human rights and the services we work for are under threat? Grow up!
lovecats: redana: lovecats; some just cannot work it out; but you can take off the dunce's hat and off to the top group. But redana I am wearing on the picket!
It will keep you dry.

SWers who are past their sell by date, love it! that's gotta be quote of the day
thing with closing cases is it's usually pressure from managers to do this and its not what the SW wants and we are pressued to close cases which shouldn't be closed
5 years? wow! you're optimistic, come back in 3 lol!
