APT - Adolescent Preventative Team (love than one - what better than preventing adolescence!!)

LEA - Local Education Authority
MIS - Management Information System / CAFIS - Children & Families Information System / numerous other variables depending on LA
LA - Local Authority
CBT - Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (increasingly used)
ADP - Anti-Discriminatory Practice (especially good for baffling non SW's - like the GP story above)
CPC - Child Protection Conference / stick and R in somewhere for the review
IS / RS / FS - initial, review and final Strategy meetings (pre-child protection)
s.47 - Section 47 (of the CA'89) - (not forgetting s.17, s.31, s.32 etc etc etc)
CA'89 - Children Act 1989 (plus loads of other Acts of Parliament similarly abbreviated on files)
PP - Police Protection (and NOT PPO as it is often mistakenly called - no order required the police just do it)
EPO - Emergency Protection Order
ICO / CO - Interim Care Order / Care Order
PR - Parental Responsibility
IAT - Initial Assessment Team
Anyone remember the old ones than can still be found on some of the old files to raise a lot of head scratching - JOLT (Juvenile Offender Liaison Team), DCFT (Dept of Child and Family Therapy), DCFP (as before but P stands for Psychiatry), ESN (don't ask), the more recent DHSS and DSS (precursers of DWP)
old SW qualifications - CSS and CQSW which predated the DipSW
