    Social care quango salaries

The chair of the Care Quality Commission is paid 60k, Mental Health Act Commision non-exec members gets 90k, as does CSCI chair Denise Platt. I was just wondering - what is a fair salary to run a quango?

Some of these people need to ask themselves whether they are not paid excessive money for the work that they do. I do not believe that they get where they are because they are seen as challenging, outspoken, radical and not generally seen as 'safe pairs of hands.' I don't want to personally criticise any of them but is it right, bearing in mind the origins of social work and what it ought to be about, to make small fortunes on the backs of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable?

It seems a  lot of money to me too. Whatever the budget constraints or pay cuts planned for everyone else there's always some money spare for those at the top

It feels like a lot of money to me too. But it isn't when compared with the salaries and bonuses earned by many City workers, company heads and heads of medium-sized companies. You may say, "well that's the private sector, what do you expect?", so what would be a fair salary? No one has answered that - and I must admit I can't answer it either.
