I have had my attention drawn to a online shop selling social work gifts.

My particular favourites are the mug stating 'instant social worker just add coffee', and the T'Shirt saying 'I'm a social worker but I'm not going to take your kids.... unless you take mine first!'

Oh what an interesting website you have found. That is something I never thought would have existed. May invest in a super social worker pair of undies

I think if I walked around  my local area with a bag which says 'Everyone loves a Social Worker' I might be lynched :)

Social workers rock! Yes, I like this site.. maybe we should design some of our own social work gifts? Anyone got any snappy slogans?

I liked the mug that says' listen honey the title is social worker not miracle worker' and the other one that said 'why don't I just loan you my magic wand and you can do it yourself?'

Hmm, maybe that says quite a lot about the type of day it's been today, actually! Wink

That is amazing. I know some of that stuff is probably generic slogans they use for a lot of professions but some of it is so true it hurts.

And Social Workers do Rock!

I need a new work mug for my next placement, so this site is perfect! Cheers hatgirl :)

I'm a bit sad all the babygros are American though. My coursemate's due in January, so that would be a cute gift, but I can't bring myself to purchase something that calls her a mom/mommy not mum/mummy! I'd get the "Property of a social worker" but for some reason that makes me think of the kid being in care lol.

Just a thought Jellybean, can you not customise one of the babygrows using the link at the bottom of the page?

My 'SOCIAL WORKERS ROCK' t-shirt came the other day. It's more than I would normally spend on a t-shirt but its good quality and I wore it to the pub with my ex-course mates and they found it hilarious. I reckon it will be good for leaving dos and inter-professional training. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Don't wish to put a damper on things but I suspect most of the fans are under thirty. The need for these trinkets comes from insecurity and concern about ones own image and how one appears to others. My generation would call it the need to appear " with it".

I put this stuff in the same category as "Baby on board" which is a sad need to tell other people about you. If you like the site ask yourself the question "Why" ?                                           Your immaturity is being exploited.

Who needs a morale boost?  Not you, obviously.  Well done on being awesome.  Keep it up.

I just bought myself a mug.  Yippee-ki-yay.  Oh, wait, was that an immature response?  No, it was fuckin' John McClane.

What a judgemental attitude you have. Also, "baby on board" stickers are to indicate that in the event of an accident, the emergency services should look for a baby, who might not be easily seen in the wreckage of a car.

Good point about the car sticker, never thought of that.

If no one ever made judgements these forums would be boring. Perhaps you would enlighten me again with the difference between opinions and judgements. I take it you agree with the rest of my posting.

I understand Shirack's position on this. On one level Social Work is a serious profession and having slogan mugs and t-shirts may seem to trivialise that a bit. But I also think it helps to humanise it. The 'joke mug' at work is part of an office camaradarie that can be conducive to a more supportive working environment. My 'Social Workers Rock' t-shirt does tell other people about me (I'm NQSW so you will have to forgive me the sin of pride in my recent qualification and registration) but I like to think it may send a message to others in the pub (or the three people who would be bothered to look that closely) that social workers are human beings as well.

However, despite being slightly over thirty, my comic collection is testimony to the fact that I am a bit immature - you've got me there.

My only issue with the items in that store is the poor design quality. ;) I'm almost tempted to re-design a couple of items with those slogans on! I know I certainly feel the "magic wand" comment sometimes!! :)

I'd have to seriously consider where I would use a mug which said any of those things, or where I'd wear a t-shirt saying "social workers rock"! Not sure where either of them would go down well!
