Help!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been short listed for an interview for a social work role in a leanring disabilities team, but i have not idea what to read and prespare for it. Help help please with ideas.
thanks you all in advance
I expect someone more in the know that me will answer, but off the top of my head things such as - advocacy and self-advocacy, risk management and empowerment, personalisation, budget management, benefits, knowledge of learning disabilities, mental capacity, health and social care bill, assessment of need. I could be wrong, though. Good luck.
Hi,
You will definitely be asked questions about adult protection, however, this is dependent on what part of the UK you are in. I work in Scotland, so we use the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 all the time. You could also read up on Direct Payments. Apart from that i feel that the last post gave you a good summary of what may be asked.
Good luck
The first reply has got most things covered. But I think you should also do some reading on support planning. There is a great website on support planning www.supportplanning.org
Perhaps have a look at some of the leading LD organisastions websites; Mencap and British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD). I would also have a look at Helen Sandersons Associates as the leading organisation on person centred practice.
Best of luck :)

Have you ever worked in LD in any way?
'He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master' - HST.
I have only worked in learning disabilities as a support worker in supported living, residential setting and day centres.
That's where my desirable on the application came from but I don't have ideas of the basics for a social worker .
Well, plenty of suggestions on this thread...you'd better get swotting!

You've got the experience of the different environments - which is essential, and you're more experienced than I was when I applied for my post as an LD social worker! When is your interview?
As other posters have suggested, you'll need to demonstrate a knowledge of the multidisciplinary nature of LD (working with health, education, police, voluntary sector etc), personalisation (personal budgets and direct payments), person-centred methods, FACS criteria etc.
You'll need to show your knowledge of policy and law too. White papers such as Valuing People Now are essential, although you should be aware that VPN is now out of date and has not yet been updated/replaced.
Talk about how each individual has different needs, there can be no generalisations, good communciation is central to success... Theory comes into it as well - most of this should come from your uni course, so go back over your LD notes (if you have any).
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT IN PREPARING FOR MY INTERVIEW, I GOT THE POST IN THE TEAM ON CONDITION OF CRB AND REFERENCES,
THANK U AGAIN
Congratulations!
Hello,
Congrats on your post - I have an interview for a LD team next week and would appreciate any help on what might come up, what you were asked, and anything that is hot on the topic at the mo? I was the same as you, no SW LD experience, but had worked as a support worker.
Thanks
