This is probably a silly question but  can't work out how the stars on each posting are assigned...sorry, I am sure when explained it will be obvious.

someone will give, say, a 5 star rating. Then it is averaged out from there. So, if someone else gives 1 star, it becomes 3 and so on. If 4 people gave 5 stars and 1 person gave 1 star it will probably average out to 4 or 4.5.

Have the same problem. ie why can't you give someone 5 stars if the dreaded 1 star has been applied by someone else, out of spite. Is one star better than no star?

Also what is the point of stars they are about as pertinent as the medals on a royals chest.

I am sure they are gained or otherwise by popularity not post content.  ie some like to give others a good kicking. I know I do.

Was typing the same time as Redana. Thanks again this am.

Agree, there are those that will apply the stars according to who has made the posting. There are also those that take joy from being 1 starred. It's all a nonsense. Something else, if you put your cursor over the stars, you will see how many times is has been rated.

If I put my cursor over a star - all that comes up is a description of what it means - eg 5 = excellent. How do you get the other info redana? None of it seems very scientific does it!

Also - just realised I can give myself 5 stars which is fantastic.

3kids, you will only get that info on posts you have rated. After you have rated, just pass the cursor over the stars gently and it will show up the detail. By the way, you are brave to admit to starring own posts- there are those on the forum that heavily criticise those that do so!

Don't worry - I won't be making a habit of it.

These are two of the best stars you can get.

Here is the stars thread- it didn't fall into a black hole.

Yet another glitch. My last posting on stars was a you tube link to Joe Egan. This was April 30th. If you scroll back to that day there are 4 postings none of them relate to stars. Is it me? What am I not understanding here? Hope someone can point it out and I can then do a Homer  " Doh"

Oh and doesn't JoSoPhine have a lovely voice.

I think you are probably searching 'professional forums for social care professionals', rather than the broader remit of 'forums'??- I worked this out in the past due to having similar issues.....

Yes, I was especially impressed with the attached link where she sings it in Japanese. You are right- a brain like a supermarket car park.
