Teachers' strike - are they really hard done by?

On Newsnight last night Gavin Esler stated that in the last 10 years teachers' pay has risen 19% in real terms. This sounds fairly generous doesn't it? Wouldn't it be a shame if a spate of pay disputes brought in a far meaner Tory government. Or is the real issue class sizes; to me, the central problem in state education.

Ok I am going to go for it. I know I will be shot down by Teachers but I have to make a stand for us poor poor parents. How  can a teacher say they are hard done by. they get a good wage and good holiday perks. I get 29 days hol a year and I have to seek childcare for my son in the countryside where there is none. They give children homework which we sit and support our children with for hours on end. they may say "well we mark it" and "we do teaching programmes" and "we put up with violence" and "we do our work during the hols and at night" well guess what so do we. SW spend hours doing work at home which effects their homelife, we have violence in our jobs (totally unacceptable in any profession). They spend their hols with their children and dont have to pay childcare. Come on stop it the only people that are effected by the strikes are the children. Their education suffers and therefore so does their self confidence and desire to learn. They end up walking the streets and getting in with older children.

So NO I dont think they are hard done by but I know two groups that are THE PARENTS and THE CHILDREN
