good for you juliet i have also fired off a complaint to BBC.
I would have complained if I'd seen the programme! I'd be interested in knowing the response..
Hi, Just watched it on iplayer, the debate was about around the sex industry, Nicky Campbell said in more a questioning tone "
The lady from the sex industry said she worked with some disabled men, she finds it fullfilling and a privelege, as its intimate and powerfull. Nicky Campbell then said in a questioning tone " a form of social work in some form", the lady said "no, but if thats how you describe it, social work is a pretty tough gig from where I am standing."
This was Nicky C at his best, using a term he thought would describe what the lady was saying, I think he was attempting to paraphrase and reflect back, but just chose the wrong term. I dont think there was anything maliscious or maligning in what he said, not the biggest of gafs I would say.
Although it might be worth Mr Campbell explaining for himself and spending a little time developing a better understanding of social work, then he might be so enthused that he becomes a figurehead for SW.
I didn't think there was anything malicious either.
julietm:I have just witnessed Nicky Campbell on BBC1 describing a sex worker as a social worker as she has disabled clients. I am so angry about this as we have a crisis in social work at the moment as our image is so bad we do not need the BBC perpetuating this by furthering the distorted views the general public have of us as a profession. I have submitted complaints to the BBC and Ofcom and would urge anyone else that saw the programme to do the same!
Julietm, But what do YOU do when you meet a new client for the first time? Do you ask them what they expect you will be able to do for them.
Are all your clients "satisfied customers" when you close the cases?
