i just felt i needed to share this from the daily mail as it is not there usual tripe  the journalist said and i quote

Social workers get a tough press these days, accused of being either too lax or too paranoid and politically correct.

We were neglectful at the beginning,' says Toney. 'The children were fed and cared for, but we didn't go to them when they were crying, and we realise now that's what you need to do to bond with a child. We weren't co-operating with the social workers. Instead of concentrating on the children, we would argue with the social workers and be quite aggressive.'

But social workers are used to it and try to work through such problems. Indeed, removing a child is considered a last resort.

Heartwarming as it is not to have the dear old DM baying for our blood my enthusiasm is slighlty quashed by the army of readers calling for the sterilisation of the underclass. Clearly their hatred for liberal social workers is outstrppied by their hatred for couples living on benefits and having dozens of babies.

Mmm I do have to agree really, as thoughtful as it was for the daily mail to let someone else take the blame and ridicule for a change I do feel the tone of the article remained as distasteful and as accusatory as usual, perhaps more so as this couple clearly do not have the educational abilities or professional support to defend  themselves in the national media. They have also probably been taken advantage of for a couple of quid to sell their story.

However usesless they may be, at least our professional bodies or local authorities take the media strain on our behalf in most cases.

It is a shame that the only time we can have anything good written about us is when it is because they are trying to make someone look even worse than us.

i don't think it is hatred of social workers rather a hatred of 'liberal'.

i myself have issues with women/couples on perpetual benefits who breed away whilst i pick up the bill.

social responsabilty and all that.

Is it just me or does anyone else not care what the DM say anymore about social work? That they run all over social workers when they think it will sell papers. I just dont care if they are saying good things or bad, their opinion is void as far as im concerned.

I boycotted the DM years ago due to it's one sided biased opinions which only serve to feed people's angst and paranoia. I have also finally managed to get my mother off the paper too!

I agree with Hat girl though. Their contempt for us is clearly less than their contempt for people who have large families and live off welfare. If the family were a middle class one, we would be in the firing line.

Saying that,  i live in hope and will wait and see!

Ah, good to see fellow DM haters! It is truly a shocking standard of "journalism". Crap. I gave up the Daily Mail years ago.
