I have an interview at warwick uni for the MA. Could anyone help me with the perspectives of service users and current social work debates. ???
Or any pointers about Warwick at all... very nervous..!
Hi,
Have you had your interview yet? I'm a first year student at Warwick, last year I had interviews at bham and Leicester as well. My interview at Warwick was brilliant and I loved the University, so I chose Warwick.
Firstly its a really tough course, expect lots of reading and essays due in every 4 weeks. Warwick as a University is great and the student life is really diverse, when you get time to do it!
As far as the interview goes, just be yourself, talk about your experience. Think about what service users think about social workers - what would make an effective social worker? Like maintaining regular contact with SU, not promising things you can't do, active listening, participation and empowerment, taking on board SU experiences and perspectives of the situation, the power relationships......
Current social work debates? - in terms of children’s social work, Baby P or the Edlington boys. You could also talk about the media portrayal of social workers.
Hope this helps a little, Good luck with the interview!
thanks Pink, very useful information, am not applying to warwick but i really like you tips.
how did it go am yet to know if they will call me for an interview.xoxo
Hi Tori I have also applied for these two but hope to go to Warwick most of all!
Yes I'm hopin for Warwick most of all too!! My interview is tomorrow - pretty scared! Have you heard anything? Good luck!!
Apologies,I have not replied sooner (been xtra busy on placement)Who ever applying or going to an interview at warwick uni make sure you ask if you are likely to get a statutory placement in the local authority in first or second placement!!Very important question and for future employment prospects!!!
THe interview process was very laid back and informal.Let me know if you need help with scenerio question and il send it to u!
Best of luck u all will be find but please ask about statutory placements!!!
I'm a bit stuck on current issues and debates in social work at the present time?! There is so much and i've no idea where to start or how detailed I need to be. Any ideas? Thanks!
Do you have any idea who interviewing u?I may be able to put ur mind at ease !!I revised around personalisation because it was a big issue two years ago and i was asked questions around Baby P and Kira Ishaq (sorry for spelling) ie what was the errors, what have social workers learnt from it!!
In all honesty I messed up a bit on current issues.Make sure u can link your social care experience to skills you have now. Also the scenerio was not testing your knowledge as a social worker but whether you have knowledege of working in a multi disciplinary team and ANTI OPPRESSIVE PRACTICE!!!
Plz don't stress u will be fine!!Let me know how it goes!!!!
You've put my mind at east a lot! I've been panicking about things like the government plans and The Welfare Reform etc - I'm not great with politics, do you think this is all relevant? Things like Baby P etc, I am far more confident on.
The case study is about a family - a mother with depression, 81 year old grandmother with health problems and a 13 year old girl who is pregnant? I've thought about prioritizing the problems and liaising with other services such as health and police etc?
Are you at Warwick Uni at the mo? How are you finding it all? Thanks so much for the adive - ive been having major 'night before interview' panic.
Thanks again!
I can't believe they are using the same scenerio!Yes,make sure u mention the social worker needs to carry out a holistic assessment.Don't forget the needs of the father who needs support and counselling.Yes the grandmother needs an OT assessment ,mother needs support, children services need to be contacted for children (13 year pregnant=CHILD PROTECTION)!!
U will be fine.Find out how many people are going to be on course!!Good Luck .x
