I was wondering if i could ask what problems the closure of the ILF to new claiments has had with regards SW's helping with packages for clients Independent Living as opposed to just basic care packages.

Also how do you see the situation panning out for current recipients of ILF if it does close permanently in 2015.

I've noticed the report on the revised code of ethics & the already almost untenable workload of SW's, do you see this situation being made worst still if ILF does close completly?

Many Thanks - Taggy

Hi Taggy just  I would give thoughts as an ILF user myself who works in disability field. I come across several people who would have been elegible and are struggling on a very small personal budget from their LA. |They are not able to get the upgraded needed amount from their LA (I know the difference ILF has made for .Without it I  would be in dire straights.

As to what is to happen in 2015 No one seems to know and people on ILF are very fearful. One thought is that ILF will not exist and that the money used for this at present will in the future be given to to the LA to be doled out BUT will it be ring fenced for this use/ will more people be elegible for this pot of money? making the payments given far smalle.

The workloads for SW's will increase as they will be taking over the role of ILF assesors.

Hi Dede..........Thanks for that, yes i agree that it will be having a terrible effect with people not being able to access funds to give them anything like a chance of a more Independent Life rather than just receive services for basic care needs, which is more what LA's social care is geared towards. Even more so nowadays with LA's budget cuts & altered eligibility criteria.

Also with ILF it doesn't depend on the postcode lottery of where you live, which will happen if non ring fenced funds are given to LA's. I also agree that too much is being expected of social Workers, and this will only become more problomatic  if the ILF is wound up completely.
It seems the most Vulnerable people are getting a very raw deal indeed! Incidently, here are some links below which, if you not seen them before, could be of interest to you, or people you help.
The first is a group who have set up a campaign to challenge the closure of the ILF, the bottom one is a response from the ILF sent to the DWP which gives some idea as to why the ILF has been beneficial for many people & could continue to do so. Inbetween is the responsible reform report.
Best Regards - Taggy
