As the title says, what have you done today to make you feel proud to be a social worker? I read so much negativity on this forum, it would be really good to focus on the positives. Try to think; what have you done today to for your service users?

For me, today (or yesterday as its gone past midnight) I was pleased that one of my longstanding (very disabled) service users was awarded CHC so he doesn't have to pay £40/week client contribution and saved the council £700/week to fund his package of care (apologies to the PCT but my loyalties don't sit with you).

Another happy moment for me was when a service user who is very underweight agreed to eat at lunchtime with support from a formal carer, thereby alleviating some of her daughters anxieties when she is at work.

I was also proud of one of my service users who had a stroke and was socially isolated and getting depressed (resulting in her neglecting her community rehab programme), I managed to get her into one of the best rehab facilities and they have taught her how to use an electric wheel chair and she sped past me in town with a beeming smile. Big Smile

Surely it can't just be me that loves my job?

My personal reward? Half a small tub of fairly nuts ben and jerry's icecream (its currently half price at Asda and Tesco). YUMMY.

What a lovely post and topic!

I love helping people to secure CHC funding! It's one of the best parts (I think) of my job Smile

Yesterday I was over the moon because I discovered a charity that could help one of my service users - an older lady - who was very unhappy that her family were using guilt tactics to 'persuade' her to give up the dog that she had had for 13 years. After a fair bit of digging, I discovered an organisation that would support her to look after her dog for free! The result of which is one very happy lady!

I recommend The Cinnamon Trust - just in case anyone else comes across a situation like this in the future Smile

Further excellent examples of postings totally unrelated to the original topic - or is it just the 'usual suspects' trying to show how 'clever' they are!?

Thought you'd left?  Oh, wait...

Today, so far,  I've gotten someone's benefits sorted.  Little victory for me, big change for them.

I am proud that I have spent the last two hours cleaning underneath my bed. It was ram packed with every single uni handout/assignment and I have have shredded the lot, then hoovered and boxed things I wanted to keep in the underbed storage I purchased at the weekend and now its all tidy- yaya nothing to do with social work or service users but I still feel proud- it takes a lot me me to be organised.
