Hi everyone,

I am new to the site so not quite too sure how to lay out this post. I am a first year student looking for some assistance with the following case study:

Emily, a 17 year old service user, is in receipt of services from a children's charity following the unexpected suicide of her friend. Emily is suffering from depression and is self-harming. Emily see's a social worker on a one to one basis twice a week to discuss her feelings and to do some CBT in order to stop harming herself. During the time Emily and her social worker have spent together a friendship has formed. Emily and the social worker have met up on a number of occasions for a drink in the local pub and the social worker has also paid Emily to babysit for her.

During a recent visit to the pub, where the social worker purchased alcohol for her under aged service user, a conversation came up regards two other members of staff that worked for the organisation. The social worker disclosed confidential information regards a disciplinary procedure that was taking place involving another social worker and a manager. Emily was immediately aware that disclosing this information was inappropriate. The following day Emily approached another member of staff to raise her concerns.

I am trying to figure out what policy/legislation would fit with this scenario but I am struggling. Would Emily be covered by the legislation and policy that safeguards children or adults as she is 17?

Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Thank you in advance

Report the Social Workker to the GSCC for clearly breaching the Code of Ethics.

Refer the SU to CRUISE (or similar bereavement service).

Emily is still a child.
