I am a Qualified Social worker trained overseas. In April 2009 I became GSCC registered as A Qualified Social Worker. My main problem that I do not have UK Social Work experience. I only have overseas Social Work experience (fostering, disable, elderly). I feel very-very dissapointed because there are shortage of Social Workers but I can't find a job... I tried to contact many different recruitmenting agencies or local authorities but they do not want to have any business with me. I do not mind  start working as a Social Work assistant but not so many vacancies around. I really-really want to be a Social Worker but every day I am losing my confidence more and more.... Please, help me if you can...

I'm sorry to hear you've had such difficulties. Have you considered some voluntary work? Whilst I accept that it might not lead immediately to a qualified position, it might put you in better stead to apply for social work assistant vacancies if you can demonstrate some kind of relevant work experience in the UK. I would suggest continuing trying with agencies, but many authorities recruiting from agencies are looking for someone to 'hit the ground running' and begin straight away - having requisite knowledge of UK legal systems and so on. Nevertheless, it might be worth registering with as many as possible and see how get on - making it clear that you are very flexible. Also, see if you can consider different areas - if you're prepared to relocate, you'll be far more likely to have a wider pick of jobs to choose to apply for. Apologies and I hope you don't think I'm being picky, but I noticed a couple of issues with your English in your post. I'd suggest that you make sure that the English you are sending out in CVs, application letters, filling in on forms, personal statements and so on is spot on. It's a common complaint of newly-qualified or overseas workers that the level of written English is sub-standard. Personally, I find this harsh and recognise the benefits that people from different cultures and so on can bring to a team and to working with clients: but there is clearly a need to communicate clearly in good English, perhaps particularly if you are going to work in areas where court reports and so on are required. Managers are busy and may argue that they don't have the time to correct your English as well as consider any other necessary amendments to a report provided by a new social worker. Mistakes in job applications with English are not likely to 'sell' you to an employer. Perhaps you wrote your post in a rush though - it really doesn't matter for here - just a suggestion for job applications and so on. I do hope you get something sorted. Good luck! (and apologies for the lack of paragraphs in this post - the forum is still not mac-compatible!)
