Ok, this is slightly off-topic but I thought it was quite interesting. The BBC reports that the village of Firhall in Scotland has gone child-free, with only over-45s allowed to own homes and children or grandchildren of residents only allowed to visit occasionally.
Does it sound like a tranquil idyll or a bit of a nightmare?

oh gawd that sounds like a brilliant place to live. no children and no whining parents who believe the world revolves round them and their brood. even better!!!! no child and family s/w teams telling us how tough their job is :)
I wouldn't want to live there-I find that, ironicallly, the adults that do not have time for children are more childish than the children.
I agree with Redana. It seems a bit micro-managed and unnatural. I've also tended to find it is absolutely not the children that cause any upset and disturbances in my own community!
I wouldn't want to live in any town that set down restrictions about who could and couldn't live there to be honest.
I pretty much do live in a child free area, its all young professional couples and students round here - and thats how i like it! Id feel guilty rolling in from a club down a family street 4am!
Does anyone ever think a village without teenagers might be quite nice?
I would prefer a 'titchmagoo'-free village!!!
Reminds me horribly of P. D. James 'The Children of Men' that envisaged a world with no children.
