Amberley House in Stoke-on-Trent has chosen Dignity Action Day (25th Feb 2010) to showcase its facilities and services to health and social care professionals.
The home, which opened in April 2009, was the Priory Group’s first care home for older people in England,
Amberley House provides specialist and dementia nursing care in 76 single en-suite bedrooms, finished to the highest standard. There is also a choice of lounges and dining areas and an enclosed landscaped garden.
The care home’s dementia floor utilises the very latest research in dementia care focussing on a person’s abilities. Dementia-signposting assists with orientation and a reminiscence room is available.
Dignity Action Day is a part of the Department of Health’s Dignity in Care initiative. Amberley House is supporting the initiative by displaying posters and other information promoting the importance of treating both residents and staff with dignity.
Sharon Butler, managing director of the Priory Group care homes division said: “Dignity has to be at the heart of everything we do. Dignity Action Day is designed to celebrate the fantastic work that is being done in the sector in delivering quality care. It is a fitting day for us to invite health and social care professionals to see the facilities at Amberley House and meet the staff team.”
In the words of Sir Michael Parkinson, national dignity ambassador: “It might well be that the difference people make individually is a mere ripple on the surface of our care system, but each of those ripples added together create a wave, a social movement and if that makes life better for some – then it has to be worthwhile. Dignity in care must be everybody’s business. I hope people will do whatever is in their power to make a difference.”
Health and social care professionals are invited to visit the home on Thursday 25th February from 2.30pm

The Dignity in Care Campaign
The Dignity in care Campaign, which launched in November 2006, aims to stimulate a national debate around dignity in care and create a care system where there is zero tolerance of abuse and disrespect of adults. It is led by Government in partnership with many organisations that provide and commission care and protect the interests of those using care services and their carers.
Sir Michael Parkinson joined the campaign as the National Dignity Ambassador in May 2008 to help raise the profile of the campaign by bringing it to the attention of the public.
