  • Conduct: Admonished social worker received poor supervision and had high caseload

The latest GSCC conduct case is pretty interesting. A practitioner, who worked for Rotherham, has been admonished for poor record keeping and administration i.e. not managing her files or recording case notes properly. But the GSCC has come out and said that her failings were compounded by high caseloads...

  • Re: Kinship Carers

The issue is not about financial gain or not loving the children its about being able to have the choice and if these children need stability and someone their for them maybe the last thing someone wants to do is go out and leave these children until they feel settled and safe, and how can anyone in...

  • Re: Kinship Carers

Sorry I have read and unable to quote the bit I wish to use, but how old is the grandmother? and how many children did she have placed with her? I feel its amazing to be told to go out and get a job, and if there is a disability involved also then I would say trying to get a job is almost impossible...

  • Re: Kinship Carers

I feel that if it saves the children or whom ever else the informal carer is caring for the heartache of being away from there family, why should they not be paid it costs money, people have to leave there jobs and can not be expected to live on thin air, It would also save the government money and help...

  • Re: Are unqualified staff dangerous?

No they are not, what is dangerous is an individual persons unwillingness to learn and move on, we are all unqualified to start with and we are taught by the people who know best the service user and their informal support. By listening and hearing what a person wants we can learn alot. The only reason...

  • Re: Roles and tasks of social work document published

Here's a list of the members of the General Social Care Council all of whom are appointed by the NHS Appointments' Commission. They are pretty much all senior figures and there's no one who leaps out at you as being a "frontline voice". But then again, the GSCC would say they are...

  • Re: Protection of social work role - three years on

Thanks for your comments Wilt regarding our coverage and its balance, which are taken on board. In fact, it's a fair cop guv. We regularly cover decisions on conduct cases but rarely report on CST appeals against registration decisions (Lisa Arthurworrey's case being a rare example). The main...

  • Roles and tasks of social work document published

The long-awaited statement on the roles and tasks of social work in England has been being published this morning by the General Social Care Council. It's pretty similar to the draft version published in October 2007 - which was a bit controversial - and interestingly has not been formally published...

I look forward to reading Wilt's essay on the GSCC and communication! Does anyone think the council is right to be refusing to register Lisa Arthurworrey?

  • Re: Media presentation of child protection work

Here's the abstract for Lesley's article if anyone wants to have a look (sorry, hope that's ok, Lesley). Given the importance of television drama, I just wondered how you thought social workers, or indeed BASW or possibly even us as a magazine, could go about making the links that you talk...
