  • Practice placements are the key; not separate social work degrees

by Mike Wardle How well does the degree prepare social workers for practice? Two years on since it produced its first graduates, the degree is in the spotlight. A series of regional visits is being organised by the Department of Health and the Department for Children, Schools and Families as part of...

  • Indulgence

A completely self-serving and indulgent post if I can be forgiven, so I’ll keep it brief! It’s Sunday, it’s a holiday weekend and I’m fairly busy but I did get a letter yesterday from the university confirming that the portfolio for my Approved Social Worker (ASW) training course...

I feel its amazing to be told to go out and get a job, and if there is a disability involved also then I would say trying to get a job is almost impossible...

  • Re: Kinship Carers

I feel that if it saves the children or whom ever else the informal carer is caring for the heartache of being away from there family, why should they not be paid it costs money, people have to leave there jobs and can not be expected to live on thin air, It would also save the government money and help...

  • Re: dodgy placements

I would not call them dodgy placements, placement in school is relevant to their course and students can meet their requirements on a placement of this type. In fact it is very good first placement as it gives them the opportunity to do a lot of direct work with children and families ie, one to one,...

  • Re: practice teachers vs practice assessors

I think it was partly to do with costs but more to do with a lack of people training to become practice teachers due to the time involved.
