LEARNING DISABILITY WHITE PAPER TO BE PUBLISHED

The government is to publish its learning disability white paper
today. Health secretary Alan Milburn will make the announcement of
‘Valuing People A new strategy for learning disability for the
21st century’ at Fulham Football Club in London.

Milburn is to meet people taking part in a club scheme to help
them earn a wage and extend their independence.

The white paper is expected to suggest how agencies can improve
the care and support services they provide to people with learning
difficulties to help them lead a more independent life.

The health secretary is expected to give a briefing on the new
white paper at 3.30pm. We will bring you the details as they are
released.
