Income support rise for people on preserved rights

Social security secretary Alistair Darling has announced a 3.7
per cent increase in income support rates for the 70,000 people in
residential care and nursing homes with preserved rights.

Preserved rights are special rates of income support paid to
people who were living in nursing and residential care homes when
community care was introduced in 1993.
