Framework welcomed

Older people’s charities have given the National Service
Framework for Older People a warm welcome after its launch last
week.

Help the Aged and Age Concern described the framework as a leap
forward in the fight against ageism. But they called for the
government to provide additional resources and funding to implement
the NSF and “enable NHS and social care staff to raise their level
of play to the standards older people demand and deserve”.

The standards cover person-centred care, intermediate care,
primary care, mental health and the promotion of health and active
life in older people, promising an integration between health,
social care and housing.
