HUTTON RETAINS POST BUT LOSES SOCIAL CARE

John Hutton has retained his post as health minister, but lost
responsibility for social care.

He has been retained within the ministerial team at the
department of health under Alan Milburn, who continues as secretary
of state for health, but taken over John Denham’s brief including
primary care, and NHS pay and conditions.

The new minister for social care is Jacqui Smith, who moves from
the department for education and employment. Smith is MP for
Redditch in the midlands.
