Head of Welsh inspectorate appointed

Rob Pickford has been appointed as the first head of the new
Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales.

Assembly health minister Jane Hutt announced the appointment: “I
am delighted that Rob has taken up this exciting and challenging
post. He has extensive experience in the social care field and will
be a great asset to the new organisation.”

Pickford, who is assistant director of adult services at
Bridgend Council, began his career as a social worker. He will take
up his post in September.

Pickford said: “The Care Standards Inspectorate will create a
unique opportunity to strengthen the quality of services, by
listening to what people who use services say and by working
closely with key partners.”

The inspectorate will be an operationally independent division
of the assembly, and will be launched on 1 April next year.
